We will be arriving early morning, will plan a grocery stop and some "settle in" time at OKW then plan on hitting a park and dinner late afternoon. Any ideas?? My girls might enjoy a character dinner but plan to go to Crystal Palace later in the week!

Where could we go to start our trip off "right" ???

Thanks. :flower:

Hello!

We like Chef Mickey's on the first night. It makes us feel right in the heard of Disney. ANd my son loves the napkin dance. Have fun! :)

Since checkin is not til 4pm, we try not to waste a park day on our arrival day and usually head to DTD where we inevitably end up at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe..........I love that guy..........more particularly love his sushi and gourmet pizza's..................and oh, yeah, a few cold ones to go along with the pizza...........MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......Pizza and beer.!!!!!!!! :jumping4: :jumping4: :jumping4:

It depends on what time we get in. If we arrive early enough then we will head straight to EPCOT and just relax with a few beers and then Illuminations before settling down for a good nights sleep. If we arrive a bit later in the day then we will head to The Boardwalk and grab a table at Big River and just people watch to unwind a bit.

We normally fly in the am, so we're in the hotel by noon-ish. In the past we just spent the day relaxing, and going to DTD in the afternoon/evening. Someone on here suggested that we go to Chef Mickey's our first night and I thought that was a great idea! I cancelled our PS for the next AM and made them for 6pm our first night! I'm very excited!

WC or Ohana's might be fun for them.

Want a beautiful view and watch the fireworks, Narcoossees or Cal Grill.

Fun - Beaches & Cream Its an old fashioned sundae shoppe with Hot dogs, hamburgers and wonderful ice cream sundaes.
Trails End Buffet and then the campfire and movie at FW.

We did 1900 Park Fare with DD 5 on our first night. We had the same arrival as you - early am flight, grocery stop, hotel, park, dinner at 4:50, to bed on schedule or close to it. Only night that we were to bed early. It's a long day getting up early, so an early dinner is ideal - we had lunch at the pool and shared a chicken finger basket so we didn't ruin dinner.

We too usually make the arrival day a nonpark day. We arrive, get settled in and order pizza from "FLIPPERS".. take some pool time or head to DTD to do some shopping. To bed early so we can hit the park HARD the next day :)

ooooo I cant wait. that pizza is SOOOOO good

We headed to Downtown Disney and went to Bongo's the first night and went back again every night after that! It's great there for adults :) Loved Fulton's as well and had a blast at Disney Quest and Pleasure Island.

Do you have the ph # for Flippers? We've ordered it once, but that was when we were staying at Universal, so would be ordering from a different location.

OOH! We will be there too! I have a PS for Chef Mickey's (in exactly 2 weeks from tonight!!) but I was thinking of maybe skipping it. There is another thread talking about how it is yucky these days-at least for dinner! I made that PS and one for our last morning there thinking it would be the perfect spot to start and end our trip. In the past we have always ended up at DD also at Wolfgangs Express. We will have one extra day to use our tickets (either the day we get there or the day we leave) since I got the 7 days tickets for the price of the old 5 day ones we were planning on. We can go to a park when we get there or use the extra day the morning of departure. I was thinking of heading to Epcot and skipping CM on arrival day, then heading to MK on departure day, breaking for a late breakfast at CM and then heading out. Either that or we will do CM twice. It does seem like such a perfect way to start the trip doesn't it? See you all there!!

Thousands prob think it's great, so if you have never experienced it, I suggest you try it out. On these boards (and others), more often people complain when they don't like something, than when they do. We love it..sets us in the mood when we bring the grands (we go so often we save it for when the grands come).
My grands love it (and I have no beef with it) and it starts us off on a real Disney high!

For our first night there, we'll be trying out Ohana's for the first time. From the posts on this board, it sounds like a fun place to start the vacation!

From my experience, I am not a good traveler. We have to travel across country to get to WDW, and I am so tired (although jazzed) when we get there, as are our kids. We learned the hard way that doing Chef Mickey's the first night was sensory OVERLOAD. The next time we went, we had a nice, quiet, yummy meal at Kona Cafe & then we went shopping and toured the monorail hotels afterwards. Still gave us the magic of Disney without feeling like I was going crazy with the noise.

But, if you don't have as far to travel, and your kids are a bit older than mine were at the time, Chef Mick's might be a good idea. That, or we also really like Whispering Canyon and 'Ohana when we're not so tired. Good food, and fun entertainment. And who doesn't like the WL or the Poly?

We have to be up very, very early to fly 3.5 hour international (with all the immigration and customs hassles at MIA) then the short flight from MIA to Orlando, so we won't be up to much the first night. We will have a full kitchen, so will likely tour our resort grounds, check that everything in our villa is working, hit Publix, then have a quiet dinner in our villa (something light prepared by ourselves or some takeout gotten on the way back from Publix).

Yes, we are boring - but the travel will take a lot out of us, with 3 kids 6 and under! Plus, we're hoping to stay 2 weeks (or at least 1.5 weeks), so there will be plenty of time for dinners and evening fun!

Here is a list of our first night dinners:

1993 I think we ate at the food court at Dixie Landings
1998 I also think we ate at the food court at Dixie Landings
2000 Whispering Canyon at WL
2001 Narcoossees at GF
2002 Captain's Tavern--- now Shutters at CBR
2002 Boatwrights at PO-R
2003 AS-Mo food court
2004- Kona Cafe at the Poly.

In the past we have always done DTD and Fultons the first night. Looking at the menues I think our first pick this year will be the Flying Fish and the Boardwalk.
