Palos dinner? Can DH still dine in Lumiere's or will I be eating with either DS or my tablemates? Im not giving up any of my cruise experience because DH still refuses to buy/wear pants!
Asked him today if he wants me to buy pants and he said "Im wearing shorts and if I cant Im getting a hamburger!"
So where will he absolutely be refused from in shorts? Can he still attend Palos brunch?

Please dont start a debate.

He is still planning on renting a tux for formal & semi-formal nights.

I won't start any debate here, i know how much you want to enjoy your trip. I would only suggest that you think of the other people who also have worked hard and saved and please don't even suggest your husband wear shorts to palo. If he must wear them to the rotation meals, that is his choice but palo is a special elegant place and it would be unfair to "cheapen" it for others.

I would think that Palo's would be the only place he might be refused service.

We just returned from the 8/16 western trip, and even though DCL requests that you NOT wear shorts to dinner...many men and boys did! Even to the formal and semiformal nights.

At Palo's however, I did not see anyone dressed in anything less that dress pants. Jackets are requested, but were not enforced the night we dined there.

The brunch was little more casual, but again no shorts

Sorry

Since the Navigators specifically say no shorts, IMHO he should not wear shorts to any of the sitdown restaurants.

We just got back from our cruise and the only time I saw men/women wearing shorts in Palo was for the Brunch and the High Tea and they were not refused service, the dinner at Palo, the men I saw was either wearing a suit or they were dressed casual.....Andy

This is a topic that usually ends in a debate, but I don't see anything to debate. DCL clearly states on each days Navigator "No shorts or jeans please" for all of the rotation resturants as well as Palo. Will they refuse you - maybe not (except at Palo), but the suggested dress should be followed. For those who don't want to dress as requested there is Topsiders and the fast food places.

While I realize that it's your spouse and not you we are talking about, I must say that this is a pet peeve of ours, (and I don't think we are alone!). People are notified up front of the attire expected in the restaurants, shorts are not acceptable dinner attire except at the more casual buffet. Personally we find it very irritating when folks are allowed in the restaurants when they aren't dressed properly. We are frequent cruisers and we consider "dressing for dinner" the norm. Your spouse would only have to be dressed in his dinner clothes for the 1-1 1/2 hours it takes to finish dinner, then he could change back into whatever he prefers. I would probably leave him to his hamburgers and go to the rotational dining by myself if he were unwilling to compromise. If he tries to go wearing shorts, he'll likely get some unpleasant glances if he isn't turned away altogether. It's your vacation too and you should get to have the full service dining experience if you choose. I hope it all works out for you and you have a great trip.

If he continues to be so childish about it I would let him eat at Topsiders or in the room and you and your son enjoy a nice sit down meal!

I agree. Why keep fighting the same fight? Maybe you can pack him a nice outfit to wear. (don't tell him, just pack it) When the time comes let him know the suit is there if he wants to use it. If he puts it on fine, if not fine. Let him eat where he'll be comfortable, while you and your son enjoy the dining rooms.

I would not waste any more time trying to get him into the cruise mood.

I am sorry to say it, but we were seated next to a couple in Palo, and the man was in a BATHING SUIT. I was so disgusted I could hardly enjoy my meal. So obviously they don't even enforce it there. My questions are, how are these guys not too embarrassed to even be seen like that? And why does DCL put up with it?

I don't really like wearing a suit to dinner either, but those are the rules, plain and simple. So, IMO... if you're husband wants to wear shorts everyday, let him eat at Topsiders everyday.

We started this three cruises ago when he was eight...
The "rules" were,, if you choose to accompany us on this very expensive trip you will do the following...
1. Dress the way we say for dinner. This does not include track pants or shorts, you may pick your own shirt, choosing from button downs, or polos and what pants you would like to wear. The pants WILL NOT be made of nylon, jean or terrycloth.

2. On formal night you WILL wear a full suit and tie with loafers, on semiformal night you may remove only the jacket.

3. Before or after or both, we will be taking pictures, if you give us a problem it will be your last cruise.

4. If you choose to not follow these rules, you will not ruin OUR trip you will eat in the kids club or the cabin and NOT be allowed to accompany us again.

Again, it worked with my child, maybe it will work for your husband... at any rate PLEASE do not try to sneak him into Palo not dressed correctly..I know for myself Palo is the highlight of my year, I don't go out AT ALL for an entire year to afford my cruise. The one evening in ellegance at Palo is well worth it. But if I was sat next to someone dressed for a BBQ I might just cry.....

This happened to me too. On the 8/23 Eastern cruise, we were having brunch in Palo two tables away from a table where the woman was wearing a rainbow tie-dyed pool coverup, and the man was wearing a swimsuit and tank top:eek:  We were annoyed and embarrassed, this was supposed to be a nice, elegant brunch for us.

At dinner that evening, we asked our head waiter, Nick, about dressing for meals. He said that he would never refuse to seat a person in any attire, as this was their vacation, but he did not really like seeing people come to dinner looking like slobs. He also said he thought Palo should have refused the couple we saw, as they are an exclusive restaurant and are able to do that.

So, IMGOINGTODISNEY, I don't think your husband will be turned away from dinner, but I do think you should pack some pants for him just in case he has a change of heart after seeing others around him dressed up for dinner.

Hi BeanoC.

we were seated next to a couple in Palo, and the man was in a BATHING SUIT.

The gentleman in the bathing suit was actually a dignitary from one of the Moronic tribes long forgotten on Bora Bora. No, society didn't forget them. THEY forgot themselves. These Moronics have been linked to families in Kentucky, the Pffuht clan of Qeqetarsuaq, Greenland and the lower decks of most Princess cruise ships. The North American Bathing Suit IS their tuxedo. If his bathing suit was dry and not inside-out, then he was well-dressed for a Moronic...

I feel your pain!!! My DH was the same way on our first cruise! But..yours has already agreed to the formal & semi-formal nights!! So...you've won the biggest battle!! Just pack some Dockers and a couple nice shirts. No need to ask him...just do it! You'll be surprised how fast he'll come around. Dressing is all part of the "Cruise Experience" and 1 - 1 1/2 hrs won't kill him! But if he still refuses.....don't stress about it. Not everyone LIKES to dress up! That's why there are choices. My DH is OVERJOYED that I'm not making him wear a jacket & tie every night this time!

PS...maybe a compromise is in order. He'll dress for dinner so you can see each dining room once...and the repeat nights...you agree to Topsiders? Might work?!

the thing is tho that he doesnt OWN any!
As it is he's telling me to take his tux measurements from last Nov (he refuses to get remeasured) and order his tux for this year.
Do I take those measurements (waist/inseam) to the stores and go according to those and hope for the best? Not tell him, pack them and hope after he sees others that he will put them on his body?

So I will refrain from being crass.. but really tell your husband to just grow up. If he does not want to act like an adult then let him eat at topsiders,, I would not put up with that nonsence from my ten year old I certainly would not with my husband.
I would not bother sneaking to buy anything. I would just state firmly to him that if he prefers to act that way then fine.. I love you dear but you will be dining alone.....

If you live in MASS he has to have some sort of pants that he wears in the winter. Jeans and dockers use the same sizing, so if he wears a 36W x 32L in jeans, buy that in dockers. It should fit fairly close, maybe not perfect, but close. Leave the tags on, and if he refuses to wear them once you get there, return them when you get back.

My husband actually wears old dockers around the house on weekends (with tennis shoes, gasp!). He says they are more comfortable than jeans!

What does he wear if he doesn't wear pants? He can't possibly wear shorts all winter where you live.If you know his measurements you could certainly by him a pair of cheap dress pants based on waist and length.
I personally could care less what other people wear and certainly wouldn't let what someone else is wearing ruin MY vacation. However I can see why people would be upset. It isn't fair for some people to follow the rules when others choose not to.
I suggest you go to dinner without him.Let him eat at topsiders then describe in detail how good dinner was and maybe he will change his mind.
