Where were you?

Well, I wasn't born yet, but I can tell you where my mother was!
She was in the dorm (or maybe the sorority house) at Monmouth College (IL). She found out when one of her friends started screaming and crying "They killed my president!" All the girls were crying all day.

I was 4 months old. The whole thing fascinates me and I love watching news coverage about it. My students asked me the other day who was prez. when I was born and when I said "Kennedy" they asked me all kinds of questions.
I have the newspaper from that Sunday/Monday that I found in my grandma's apartment when she went into a nursing home. Our local paper was on strike so there was no paper on Saturday.
My mom and I saw Oswald get shot. The rest of the family had gone out to breakfast but it was very cold and since I was born a little early, mom was overprotective and decided to stay home with me. We saw the whole thing (although I of course don't remember it--wonder if that explains my fascination with breaking news?) Anyhow, the rest of the family got home and no one believed her!

Can you imagine having your birthday on Nov.22, 1964, and all the news of the day you would get?!?!?

I was in my senior year history class in high school.

The day of the funeral I was deer hunting and got shot at myself (missed me - they scattered when I shot back).

Definitely a week I'll never forget!

I was in 4th grade just coming in from recsss and all the teachers were in the hall crying.:(

I have a little nephew who was born on 9/11/01.:(

I was only 4, and have no memory of it.

My father has an interesting story about when and where he was when he first heard the news. It was after midnight on that fateful day before he heard anything at all about the assassination.

Can you guess where he was, that would have prevented him from hearing about such an earth-shattering event for so long?

I've told this story before, so for those of you who already know the answer....SHHHHHHH!

Maybe we should reword this to WHERE WERE YOU IF YOU REMEMBER or were born before NOVEMBER 22, 1963.....

I had just turned 5 years old and remember the funeral procession on TV. A few years later I recall visiting my grandparents and being engrossed by their collection of JFK memorabilia which included a large coffee table book with very graphic photos of JFK's wounds.

bsnyder:

I don't know the answer to your question about your dad - but would love to hear the story. I have a friend who was hiking/camping in the mountains just over the Canadian border on 9-11-01. He wasn't anywhere near civilization for several days and didn't know a thing about it. He couldn't figure out why the border patrol was giving him such a hard time when he tried to get back into the USA.

And why do Dan's posts always make me cry?

Pig Pen, what's interesting is that my dad was not out of the country, he was right here in Tampa, FL.

Any guesses, anyone?
