We are heading down, hopefully, Wednesday, pending all of this Fay mess. I am preparing for a long delay in the Philly airport, so my 13-yr old daughter wants to take her laptop along to pass the time. Are the room safes in the GF large enough to store the laptop? If not, does the hotel offer a secure storage option?

Maybe put the laptop in one of the drawers with the clothing. Bury it in the middle of the clothes.

We always put it in one of our suitcases and put a lock on it. It's a nice way to use all of your locks as you can't put them on your suitcases anymore due to airport security checks. Of course, someone could take the entire suitcase with the laptop in it but we've never had a problem. It's one of those "makes you feel secure about your stuff even when you aren't" kind of things. :)

The room does offer a safe, I have a smaller tablet notebook and it fit perfectly fine, but a widerscreen full size notebook might be a problem.

And yes, the front desk/concierge also can lock up your notebook in the house safe.

My laptop sat out on the bedside table for 12 days at AKL... I never even thought about it getting stolen. :confused3

Left mine out too, just as I do any other time I travel, be it for work or business....
DH also had a habit of dumping all the change out of his pockets onto the bedside table. Mouskeeping took the tip we left everyday, but didn't touch the change, let alone the laptop. I have no worries about ours on this upcoming trip.

I've seen this question asked over and over on various boards! I just got my email ad for Big Lots and this is something they are selling!!!

Well at Shades of Green I could put it in the in room safe. I've left it in my hotel room on past trips with no problem. Of course after my parents had a theft at a hotel in another place we travel, where we never had a problem, I seriously double think things now. One trip I left it in a "hidden" compartment in the car. Depends when you travel of course..heat isn't too good for it. You can probably check it at the front desk and have them lock it in there safe. Be aware in the fine print at checkin hotels will not accept responsibility over valuables stolen from the room, they specifically tell you to use the safe in the room or their safe at the front desk.

This trip I just plan to leave the darn thing at home.

Kessington makes a Laptop cable and Lock that you can lock it to the Desk. It is like a bike lock for computers. Make sure the computer is password protected for log in and you should not have any problems.

1) There is no house safe.
2) However, there are safe deposit boxes.
3) Some are large enough for a laptop.

4) As for keeping in the room, WDW is not responsible for lost items.
5) Please keep that in mind.

$20 for a Kensington twisty-cable lock will more than pay for the peace of mind.

House Safe/Safety Deposit box, is in essence the same thing, your locking the item up in a secure facility in a central location in the hotel, which you may or may not be granted access to store or retrieve your items.

Access is 24/7.

I'd back up the laptop onto the external hard drive before I left.

If I planned on doing anything important on the laptop suring my stay (ie-work or school related stuff), I'd bring the external hard drive with me so I could back stuff up onto it during my stay, and then I'd lock up the external hard drive in the room safe...they're small, so they'll fit. The one we got was about $100 and is about the size of a paperback book but not as thick.

Then I just wouldn't worry about the laptop, because I'd be secure knowing that if it got stolen, I had all my info backed up on the external hard drive.

Of course, if you have confidential info on the laptop, back it up onto the external hard drive first and then remove the confidential info from the laptop.

We always leave ours out on the desk with a newspaper covering it. Or, if we feel energetic enough we put it in a drawer. I was always concerned about it but my husband pointed out that unless you hide the case and everything every single day, a person in the room will know you have one. Or, someone has cased out your room and, for some reason, is hell bent on getting your particular machine.

We travel with a laptop allthe time and have never had a problem.

Hubby leaves his on the desk in the room, logged out of everything of course.

The only actions that will ensure your laptop is not stolen is using the room safe..if large enough or using the front desk safe. Room doors are left open at times of the day to perform maintenance and housekeeping and at times the may be vulnerable. Resorts are open to the public with the exception of some club levels room floors-buildings. Do not be led into false security since people have left them out in the past without an incident. Cables and "hiding" a laptop will not deter or confuse a professional thief who can case a room in a matter of seconds but it may be enough for someone committing a spontaneous opportunity of theft.

The safe in the rooms is large enough for a reasonable sized laptop. My daughters MacBook fits right in but my over-sized Dell presents a problem so I take a cable lock and secure it to the chair & desk in the room.

We left our laptop out throughout our whole stay at AKL. We never even worried about putting it away. I feel like Disney is safe enough not to worry, but you could always buy a cable lock just to feel better. Have a great time!:goodvibes
