We are driving to Orlando from southern NJ (35 min from Del Mem Bridge) on June 21/22, planning on leaving around 2/2:30 and stopping for the night in SC with our 6 yo and 18 month old. Any recommendations of clean places to stay not far from the highway? We will most likely be arriving late with the 2 kids, so mainly just need something clean and in a safe area. Thanks!

If you can make it to the SC/GA line that night there are lots of hotels on I-95 near Savannah. Don't pick one actually in the city since that's about 15 miles away from the highway. Look for the name-brand places. We are big fans of Marriott and like to stay at Fairfield Inn, Residence Inn or Springhill Suites properties, all of which are clean and offer free breakfast.

Most of the properties above are listed as 'savannah gateway'.....that is where I'll be stopping for the night too. The word 'gateway' or "I95 savannah" are often IN the name of the hotel.

We also do the drive from SJ (Pennsauken) but we, or I should say he, drives straight through. I cannot give you a recommendation on where to stay, but I can tell you NOT to do South of the Border. It is a disgusting dive. I felt like I needed to shower with Clorox and we only stopped by to check it out!!!

With our kids we stopped at Luberton, not sure I think it was SC, not NC. Near the boarder. The prices were great, comfort and breakfast. Two queens and sofa bed, about $70.00. Maybe it was a Hampton, when we got off it was a right turn, the second hotel on the left side of the street. They took the Internet rate without going online to book.

We have driven from long island the last two years and have stop in Florence, SC. Plenty of hotels and places to eat right off I95.
Approx 7 hour drive to WDW from Florence. Savannah is about 2 1\2 hrs further south from Florence.

We stopped on santee. We weren't sure where we were going to stop so I had a few exits I was looking up as we were driving to see what was available. My dh said ok I am done and santee wad the next exit.

Two years ago we stopped in Rock Hill, SC and stayed at the Courtyard Marriott. We were coming from Northeast Ohio. The hotel was very nice. We usually try to stay at a Marriott hotel. Springhill Suites, Courtyard or Fairfield Inns have always been excellent! Springhill and Fairfield have free breakfast while Courtyard does not.

That was my first thought as well when the OP mentioned South Carolina. Do NOT stop at South of the Border. :rotfl2:

Lumberton is in North Carolina, maybe 15 miles from SC. That area should be good for an overnight stay. Or Savannah, Ga, like others mentioned. If the OP insists on SC, the area around the junction of I-95 and I-20 (Florence SC) should have a good choice of reasonably priced hotels.

We just recently did our stop over at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Newberry, SC. It was quiet, clean and around $100. Breakfast included biscuits & gravy, eggs, and sausage as well as fruit, bagels, yogurt, etc.

We live near Atlantic City and usually stop at Walterboro SC. Plenty of motels to choose from - plenty of food. A Wal Mart near by if you need one. About 40 minutes from the Georgia border. :)

It will take you about 2 and half hours to drive through SC, it's not as little as people think, especially when driving 95 (I live in SC). Anything near Dillon is farthest north, while Santee is about in the middle, and walterboro and Yemasee the farthest south.

I would never stay near Dillon! Just hear lots of bad stories from out that way.

I say try half way and go near Santee. Walterboro is ok but I wouldn't recommend going to far from 95, same thing with Yemasee.

I also heard from a friend that there is traffic 24/7 on 95 through VA, so be prepared for that.

Have a magical and safe trip.

It's 197 miles from border to border in SC. Dillon is South of the Boarder, Santee is mm98 and Walterboro is mm53/58. Exit 58 in Walterboro is where the Wal-mart is and there is a Murphy gas station that always has good prices on gas.

Central NJ to Santee Sc is our usual drive on day 1.Usually try to leave on a Sat or Sunday to miss DC traffic. We have stayed at the Best Western Plus many times and it is nice with a good breakfast. 2nd day easy drive and arrive in Disney late afternoon.

I am actually doing this drive in a few months....We will be doing it in reverse though...FL to NJ, then NJ to FL....We will be traveling with a 1y....Some good suggestion here on places to stop if needed..
