We're talking about driving 20 hours and then stopping somewhere for the night (hopefully getting to the campground at about 6pm on Fri). Ideally we'd have a 6-8 hour trip the next day to get to DW.

I know there was a thread about good campgrounds to stay at on I-95 in GA or northern FL, but can't find them. Anyone want to chime in? This time I'll write them down. :rotfl:

you can try
New Green Acres RV Park
396 Campground Road, Walterboro, SC 29488
Phone #: (843) 538-3450
Toll Free #: (800) 474-3450

It is about 7 hrs from Disney without stops

I can personally recommend the Florence RV Park in Florence, South Carolina (TV Road Exit.....formerly a KOA campground). It's about 6.5 hours from DW.

I can also personally recommend the Savannah, GA KOA. It's about a 4.5 hour trip from DW.

Both are pretty easy off/on from the interstate and both have pull thru sites. If you are traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday, I recommend you make reservations. Fortunately we had made reservations for that timeframe and got the last couple that they had. When we checked in, they were actually having to turn people away as they were full up.

Wonderful - thank you! I think we're leaning toward GA, which would mean a shorter trip to finish up on Sat.

I never stopped at the Savanna KOA. But comming down from the NoVA area, we usually stop at the Point South KOA 33 miles north of the GA Border. However, for us thats already 12 hours on the road with 8.5 hours of it being driving. And we are not willing head any further south.

From there is about a 7 hour run to Disney with a lunch/fuel stop on the way.

I will caution that the place has a LOT of trees, but the staff has always been very nice. The bonus is they have pizza there and we generally order as we register and it shows up at our site by the time we are done setting up. Which is perfect for just an overnight stop before making the final leg.

We've done Point South KOA several times and it's OK. We much prefer New Green Acres, it's 20 miles north of Point South at exit 53.

It's great, all huge pull-thru sites sheltered under tall pines. All the amenities, shopping nearby, easy in and out . . . It's great!

I will keep that in mind this year heading down this January. Looks like their rates may be cheaper too. But our group that heads on vacation every winter together never had an issue at Point South so we continue to return.

I have no idea about any of the facilities other then the pull throughs are level enough, the water pressure is good, and the staff is friendly. Never had an issue with the trees with a 38' pusher plus toad or 2 golf carts on a trailer.

We stayed at the Jacksonville North, St Mary's KOA in Georgia. It is just north of the Florida border and we thought it was a great campground. They served a complimentary breakfast in the morning and the people were very nice. I would definitely stay there again. Have a great trip!

We too have had a good experience at Jacksonville North (as well as Point South.) 1 exit north of the Jacksonville North KOA is Kingsland GA, with grocery stores and a big Kmart with easy access for us trailering, so we like to swing in there to pick up anything we've run low on or have forgotten.

One note, though, is that we have some friends who stayed at the Jacksonville North KOA and had a bad experience with a large group of rowdy bikers (partying all night, making a complete mess of the bathrooms, etc - not that I or they are anti-biker by any means! I'm related to some very nice ones! :) )...anyway apparently this group goes every year - so he cautioned to ask when making reservations.

When we headed down in April, their pool was open and it was the first pool that DS had been in since the previous year - he was thrilled! They have a little waterfall thing in the pool that he thought was awesome.

We love South of the border, good fun and eats. I think could be about 300 miles North of Disney.
