Where to stay?

As I anxioulsy await the new new Passporter for Disney Cruise Line, I have a question. I would like to to get as many opinions as possible so that I can make a decision.

We plan to arrive the day before our cruise around 9pm and I am thinking it would be best to stay at a hotel at Port Canaveral instead of one at the airport. My reasoning is that we like to sleep in so I would prefer to do most of our traveling by night and I don't want to rent a car.

I would like to get the lowest price possible. I really don't want to spend $150 just to sleep for one night. I would rather use that money on the ship at the spa!

What hotels would you recommned that's close to Canaveral? Also, would it be easy for us to get to Canaveral from the hotel? Again, we won't have a car.

Any suggestions will be welcomed.

How are you planning on getting from the airport to the hotel by the port?

Someone asked a similar question on this thread.

I posted my schedule which matches very closely to yours. We fly in from Philly the morning before the cruise.

I was thinking a car service.

Thanks Buddy Bear, I will check it out.

OK, personally, I would rent a car if I were headed over the night before, but to answer your question, Dave has some great info on his site about this:

http://dcltribute.com/

Here is the page specifically about hotels in the area. He has them listed by distance to port and also lists what your transportation options are:
http://dcltribute.com/lodging/

If you change your mind and decide to rent a car, he also has some great info about that:

Thanks Rick W,

I took a look at that site and still can't decide what to do.

I just didn't want the hassle of driving.

Perhaps it might be better for us to stay at an airport hotel and take a car service to the port.

I was thinking of taking the Disney bus but I want to get to the port around 10:30am and I have read that it gets there later than that.

decisions, decisions

Hi.. :wave2: Just wanted to chime in here...

We have done both ways..First time we stayed at a hotel near MCO (forget) and took their shuttle back to MCO in the A.M., and then used the Disney Buses..We were early (phobia) and boarded the first bus, around 9:30 am or so...It went well.

Next time, we used a car service (Murray Hill) and they picked us up and delivered us to the port by 10:30 A.M. Having done both, I will, and have, used the car service from now on.. We are four, and the transfers just do not cut it for us. It is cheaper to go with the town car. My DH, does really not want to rent a car, and I am too nervous.. :earseek: It just (for us) makes our vacation start a bit early, knowing we will be picked up, and taken care of for both legs of the trip..

Just wanted to give you our experience.. :goodvibes

Thanks Mommasita,
This is what I was hoping to get-what people have done and how it worked out.

So is there a Disney bus that would get us to the port by 10:30am?

It's 3 of us so I think it's about the same for the Disney bus or a car service.

Anyone else? How did you do it and how did it work for you?

We used a car service from the airport to the Port and loved it, very relaxing and the only way to travel! But there were 6 of us and the Disney Transfers were way more than the 10 person white stretch limo we hired.

As for accomodations, we stayed at the Radisson at the Port (but as I said there were 6 of us and we needed a suite) But we could have had cheaper rooms (around the $89) at the Holiday Inn Express, Quality Suites etc. But with your arrival time I would think a hotel at the airport would be a wiser idea and then car service in the morning.

Enjoy your cruise!
