Where to Stay?

In waiting for AP rates to come out, I'm trying to decide what resort I should stay at during my next trip, for the first two nights. We'll be spending the final part of our trip at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. Here's what I narrowed it down to:

Contemporary - Wing Garden or Tower
Yacht Club - Standard or Water
Animal Kingdom Lodge - Deluxe Savanna Bunk
Polynesian - Garden or Lagoon
Grand Floridian - Garden or Lagoon

I choose Polynesian Lagoon view because I fell in love with this resort last trip. I never cared for the look of the Polynesian ( looked dated to me ), but after walking the grounds and seeing the awesome views from the sandy beach, I was hooked. The pool looked cool and I liked the swings on the beach, so relaxing.

My 2nd pick would be AKL because it's just gorgeous.

We stayed at the Polynesian in August and really liked it. That being said, I voted for an Epcot resort, Yacht Club. I figure that you'll be close to MK at VWL, so YC might be a nice change. But, if you want to stay close to MK then I would grab Polynesian, lagoon view!!

Thanks for the replies so far! The only concern I have is the Polynesian renovation project: Tuvalu just finishing, Rarotonga & Niue starting. Would this make a big impact on the stay?

I picked the CR wing. If you have a small child and plan on being in MK multiple times, the walk between the resort and the park is a huge time saver.

I am looking forward to comparing it to the Poly next month. I have not stayed at the Poly since '74 but remembered how I liked it as a child.

I picked the Yacht Club since you will be spending the rest of the time at a MK resort.

I'd go with a non-MK resort. I voted Yacht Club but AKL would also made sense.

I'll second Janet2K's post, I suspect you'll wind up at GF regardless of the poll.

I voted for AKL since it is in a different location, but by the same architect as the WL. The general feeling of the two resorts is the same, yet very different. I think it would be interesting to stay at the 2 resorts back to back.

Janet, do you really think I'd choose the GF?

The poll has what the possibilites for this trip are based on what the rest of the family wants. I'm looking more towards the YC & GF. Always wanted to stay at the YC, and love the GF. With the results of the poll, I'm planning on taking what gets the most votes (probably the top 3 or 4), and that's what the rest of the family can choose from.

It's so nice of you to ask your family, BUT we know your gonna make the decision! Hmmm, interesting choices. I was looking to mark the Poly concerige cause it will be just reopening after the new rehab! And thought you would be in on that. But if you took the poly lv, you would be in tahiti, if tuvula is worked on, or over in the out skirts of aeoreoto (sp?). So the Poly gv, would be my choice, I really liked figi, 3rd floor with the marina view. Its like a lv but not paying for it. That will impress your dad.

And your in walking distance to the grand floridian!

I voted for Poly Lagoon View b/c it is my favorite.

From the MK side of the Tahiti longhouse you can watch the MK fireworks from your balcony or patio. Plus I think it has the best "hanging out at a resort and relaxing" atmosphere -- nice after a day at the parks and even better on a day *off* from the parks.

Of course, I got vetoed by the DS5 and DW for this trip. We're doing AKL for him and GF for her. Maybe afterwards I'll want to change my vote?

OK I picked the YC WV since you're already staying in a MK area resort. And I can't let the Poly beat it out! Right now it looks like a tie but you are counting the std view with the WV, correct? In that case go for the YC, it's awesome!

We are going to be staying at VWL in Oct. with 4 nights at the Poly before, so I voted for Poly. But, I voted for GV. We have stayed at Poly before and you can get a good poolview room (GV)and we always like to watch ELP and fireworks from the beach anyway. With a child that loves to swim, the poolview is more convenient for us! Happy planning!

mky, so you think the Poly? Concierge garden could be a possibility - it really isn't that much more than a regular room. And, my dad does love the Polynesian.

Well, still have time to decide. I'll definetly post what we end up with.

I absolutely love the Contemporary Tower! The location is fantastic and the view is amazing. However, next trip, we want to try Polynesian lagoon view. The Polynesian is so pretty. So I would go with either of those. Good luck deciding and have a great vacation!

If you can wait a couple more months I can give you a report of our first stay at "Grand Floridian Resort - Lagoon View"

From your list, we've only done YC, ALK. And as a matter of fact we did exactly YC for 2 days then VWL for 5.

Our pick was AKL. I asked my DS (12) what was his favorite, so it was his pick.
