im going to disney from november 9-16 with my extended family (10 adults 10 children) we want to stay at disney, at a moderate, deluxe or villa. what would be the best place to stay? i get really confused with the codes:confused: are there any for the time that we are going that would make it more reasonable to stay at a deluxe or villa? please help me out with this!!:goodvibes

Can't help you with codes, sorry.

My only suggestion would be to price different scenarios and go with the one that suits you best.

Several regular (four person) rooms? Five person rooms (at POR). Vacation villas? More than one (one bedrooms, two bedrooms, 12 person grand villas, studios...).

You'll reallly have to research what is available where and pick what works best for all of you.

Maybe you can get a group rate?

The whole family got rooms close together at POR. It was over 20 people for our family trip. We had a fantastic time. Temps in the high 40-lo 50's at nighttime and early morning, then warming up into 70's during day. Everyone swam in the afternoons at the great pools at the hotel. We had a really fun trip. Hope you do as well.

Here is a consideration.

If you have enough people to have 10 rooms on any one given night, you can get group rates. These rates are significantly lower than what you can get for a family vacation, and has possible "special" ticket prices as well.

You do not contact Grand Gatherings for this, you contact group sales. You could also sign up for a grand gathering, but that doesn't get you the big group discounts. With group discounts, they will allow you to give the group 2 choices, i.e. 1 moderate and 1 deluxe to fit the different budgets.

It sounds like you are probably close to doing this, but not quite. I'm guessing that you are up to 6 or 7 rooms. You may consider asking around and seeing if other friends or family would be interested in the discount. You guys don't have to do anything together. You just have to have 10 rooms for 1 night. (Your other families could actually start their trip on your last night.)

We considered this for a neighborhood group fundraiser a few years ago, but it just didn't happen. I think PO in the high season was $99/night, and the group ticket discount was good too.

Disney was also quite willing to work out other special events just for the group. WoW!

It was a good deal, but our group wasn't/still isn't ready for something like that.

Unless you are a DVC member, you won't get a grand villa. They are limited in number and usually get booked up before 7 months when non-members can start to reserve DVC villas.

20 Relatives?? God help you. I'm thinking proximity to each other might not be a priority after a few days!!

you could always call back closer to your trip and upgrade to a grand villa, my best friend and her giant family went last year and got a grand villa (they are not dvc members) and they LOVED it....they said it was like having a small house in disney....but it may be a bit harder because you may need two...good luck

what is the breakdown of each family?

might go for two - 2 bedrooms at OKW and a studio

8, 8 and 4.

also might go for fw cabins - each cabins sleeps 6

so you would need 4 cabins.

I would stay at a large moderate.

I love my family, but I would also ask to NOT be near each other (in different villages/areas/wings).

This way you have some privacy/away from the others time. You would still be in the same resort, so have the same pools, busses, bar, and dining options.

Just my opinion, your family may be different :goodvibes

We stayed at CSR last february with 21 family members. When we booked our packages our AAA agent set us up with a grand gathering number, and then requested we be placed in the Cabana's area (we ended up with Cabanas 8a building, close to pool and 5 min walk to main building w/food court). CSR is a GREAT resort for families. It has the best pool and water slide of all the mods. One of our family's has 3 children and 2 adults, since they only allowed 4 per room without extra charge, they booked one of their children (my DN) under the grandparents package. Since our rooms were pretty much all next door to each other (except one room a couple of doors down), my DN slept with the grandparents at night.
Good luck on your planning. And yes, aren't those ADR's fun with a large group ?!:rolleyes1

We're doing a Grand Gathering in July - 16 of us!

We picked YC because it seemed to have something for everyone. We've stayed at YC previously and loved it - although we also love GF and the Poly.

Our GG has everyone from 3-80 so we thought YC/BC would be the most centrally located and that SAB would be great for all ages.

Happy planning!

We rented a house this past December from www.allstarvacationhomes.com
and they were wonderful. Only three miles from the front gate and tons of room, 7 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, large screend in pool and jacuzzi. We always stay on site, and will probably do so in the future, but with 18 people we chose this place and thought it was great and much cheaper overall than staying anywhere in Disneyworld.

Where does everyone want to stay? Find out what everyone wants in a resort and how much they want to spend. Then have them rank their favorites from that list. Good luck and happy planning. Oh, and be sure to keep us posted of how things are going.
