Hi. I am coming over your side of the pond next month. I am participating in an exchange visit with the National Guard. I have two days at the end of the visit to spend in Washington DC. I am after some suggestions about where to stay and what to do. I will be on my own and my wife :worship: has not given me much to spend:confused3 I will fly in to Washington (IAD) some time on the Friday and will be need to be checked in by 12:00 on the Sunday.

Any help gratefully received.

David

We just got back from DC and had a great time. We stayed at the Embassy Suites convention center, which was great but too big just for one person. I wanted to suggest that you keep checking the Travel Zoo website for deals.
http://www.travelzoo.com/hotels/washington-dc/ They update their site regularly.

I know that the Hotel Harrington is often recommended for people on a budget. It is in a great location, near all of the main attractions. Here is their website. http://hotel-harrington.com/

Everyone will give you different opinions. We personally enjoyed being close to the museums. Others will say to stay in the suburbs and travel by subway. I suggest reading the various threads about Washington DC. There are loads of great tips on there. And I'm sure people will jump in on this thread to give you some hotel suggestions. I learned so much about touring Washington DC by reading on the Dis. Have a great time!:thumbsup2
