We are going to DL in September. I would love to stay on property but we are trying to make this an economy trip. Any one know a fun hotel with a great pool (water slide?) off property?

Most of the hotels and motels around Disneyland have rather bland pools. I do not recall many ( if any) having slides. Because the layout of Disneyland is way different than WDW you can stay at many motels on Harbor Blvd and be as close or closer the two of the three Disney hotels. My favorite places to stay at the Howard Johnson and the Candy Cane Inn. Both are about a 5-7 minute walk to the front gates of the parks. HoJO just opened their remodeld main pool.

Howard Johnson is one of the few real close accomdations with interior corridors and balconies. Prices can be as low as $59 a night.
Candy Cane Inn Is a bit prettier with better decore inside and a good free breakfast. www.candycaneinn.net
Here are a couple of links to show you the layout of the Disneyland Area with locations of the close accomodations.

This link has the Hojo on it but Candy Cane Inn is not listed though it is there. Find the "Four Points" hotel and just above it, across the street is a large U shaped motel. It is on the same block as the Disneyland Parks.

You are welcome. I hope you find something suitable and have loads of fun.

We do priceline when we go to DL, we even used them for our trip to WDW this year. Two out of three time we have got the Marriott for 35 a night. It is a great hotel with a Starbucks, pizza hut, and a sandwich shop in it.

If you don't want to try that, try www.anaheimdesertinn.com
we have stayed there in the past. The location can't be beat and they have regular rooms and suites.

$35 a night?! That's a great deal. With Priceline do you know what hotel you are bidding on before you purchase?

Disnee Dad Says............................You have no idea where you will stay with priceline, especially by DL where there are 100's of places to stay within a couple miles.
But if you ask for a four star, and a cheap price, you cut out 90% of the places. Whatever you get will have to be nice.

I can tell you were not to stay and that was the Ramada Inn-Saga on Harbour. It was clean and cheap but not very well maintained.

I am also a fan of the Howard Johnson's there. It's the most hotel-like of the motels, and the prices are generally pretty reasonable. We also stayed at the Carousel Inn once, which wasn't bad. I've heard good things about Desert Inn & Suites too, they have fridges and microwaves in every room.

The only hotel I've stayed in in the area that I DIDN'T like was the Best Western Stovall's Inn on Katella.

I do recommend checking into either Priceline or Hotwire for budge trips, you can get a great value. A couple considerations are in order however. They (as well as other internet sites) only guarantee bedding for 2. I rarely have had a problem getting 2 double beds, but be warned that it can happen. The other consideration in DL is that you may not be within walking distance of the park. While most hotels do have shuttle options, that is not guaranteed and you would be best off if you had a car option just in case. If those things don't bother you, I say go for it. We have had great luck.

I stayed at the Best Wester Park Place Inn, this past April and it was a very pleasant stay. We got a mini suite with two q's sofabed, microwave and frig. There was a comp. continental breakfast or strawberry pancakes included. It is the closest non-resort hotel.

The Candy Cane and Hojo's always get good review, but are a bit more of a walk. I haven't stayed at the Candy Cane since I was a kid but I'm staying at Hojo's next week.

I've also hear good things about the Park Inn International.

I've heard many mixed reports about the Fairfield, Tropicana and Carousal. I will not ever stay at the Fairfield again it was a horrible stay and the Carousal, when I stay there was just okay. I haven't stayed at the Tropicana, but I know right now they are doing extensive remodeling.

Desert Inn & Suites, not to be confused with Desert Palm(we've stayed here too and it was dark and dreary and the pool location is weird plus they are doing extensive remodeling also), is very basic but was fine when I stayed there and they have a lot of room type choices.

If you don't mind a shuttle ride I've stayed at Embassy Suites Garden Grove and Hilton Inn & Suites and Sheraton Anaheim and all were wonderful. The Embassy was the most recent stay and it was a very quick shuttle ride(5 min.)had cooked to order breakfasts and a manager's reception. The shuttles are full size buses. And of course the rooms are large and spacious.

We stayed at Best Value Inn & Suites in July and the rooms are very large and spacious but's a drive(10 min.)and just okay. I would suggest it for a large party without kids but I prefer places on Harbor.

Hotels to stay away from are:
Del Sol
Park Vue(may reports of roaches at both)
Castle Inn & Suites(moldy rooms with alot of things breaking when I stayed there)
Saga Inn(moldy rooms and wet carpets, soaking wet)

Saga Inn(moldy rooms and wet carpets, soaking wet)

That was exactly one of the problems we encountered when we stayed there last year. There were others such as an odd smell, dirty/broken pool poor continental breakfast amonst others. I even wrote to the mamgement to complain that the ceiling in the bathroom was about to fall in due to water damage. But in all honesty we were there for Disney not the hotel.
