There isn't a lot of choice near BG itself, apart from a handful of motel-type properties. However, in Tampa you have some excellent hotels, of which the Marriott Waterside is a first-class choice.

Here's an excerpt from my book, "The Other Orlando":

Staying Near the Park

If you’d like to spend a few days at Busch Gardens or just want to avoid doing the roundtrip from Orlando in one day, you may want to consider staying at one of the motels within walking distance of the park. Look for discounts on these motels in the throwaway coupon books given away at many locations along Florida’s major highways.

There is a not very well marked pedestrian entrance on Busch Boulevard (about midway between 30th Street and McKinley Street) that takes you right to the main entrance. If you’re on foot, I recommend using this rather than the automobile entry on McKinley. Walking times listed below are to this entrance.

I stayed at a really nice Amerisuites near Busch Gardens(included a light breakfast) they usually have great rates, a fridge, micro & coffee maker. We also stayed at the Doubletree Guest suites, it was an older one but clean with fridge, micro & coffee maker. Both were right near the park & usually I can find good rates on Travelscape.
Have fun!
