Where to stay in NY????

I am thinking of booking a weekend in NY for my DH birthday. I would like to stay either around Times Square or near Central Park. We love NY, but we don't normally stay over night, so any suggestions would be great! I don't want to spend a huge amonut of money.

We just stayed at the Wall st Inn. It is a really cute small inn right off of Wall st. It was very affordable and free breakfast. I few subway stations around so you can easily get around the city.

I just made this suggestion on another thread. I would highly recommend the Marriott Courtyard Midtown East. The rates have always been reasonable for when we have wanted to go and the rooms are huge by NY standards.

We went last summer and booked a room for 130 a night. It had two queens and a sofa bed and mini-fridge. It fit our entire family of 5 comfortably. It is within walking distance to Times Sq, Rockefeller Ctr, Central Park, etc..

I just booked it again for a long weekend in April and this time I'm paying $161 a night...which to me is great because I can fit five of us comfortably.

Another suggestion would be to try priceline if it is only for the 2 of you. But I would first check out which hotels are coming up by going to biddingfortravel.com and clicking on NYC. That gives you and idea of where and how much to bid along with an idea of what hotel may come up.

Check www.travelzoo.com under the NYC lodging specials.
There are some great specials right now (The Belvedere, Hilton Garden Inn, Millenium UN to name a few).
Before booking, google the trip advisor reviews for really good feedback on each hotel.
Priceline is a great idea. Do your research. betterbidding and biddingfortravel will be helpful. I urge you to bid on nothing less than a 4 star. I was able to book the Omni on Madison Ave for $105.00/night for one night last March.

My wife and I love the Times Square Hilton. We actually live in Brooklyn but on occassion enjoy a night away form the kids and stay there. The hotel has a "sky lobby" because it starts on the 40 something floor of the hotel. They have a great bar and a great view to "come home to" at night.

We stay at the Crown Plaza in NYC right in Times Square. It is next to the Hershey Store and across from M&M world. Great Hotel and staff is wonderful!

I just stayed at The Hotel at Times Square. It was very convenient to all. It has been newly renovated and was very clean, cute, got great reviews on trip advisor and was very inexpensive. I left my $100 flat iron there and the housekeeping mailed it to me. They could have easily kept it.

I'm a big fan of using Priceline. I've had some wonderful deals and some that might not be to some peoples desires.
Although we've never stayed in New York City, we've stayed 5 minutes outside of the city.
I've been Bidding for Meadowlands, NJ and getting the Courtyard, Holiday Inn and other 2.5-3star for around $70 a night total. (bid around $55 and taxes and fees)
It's worked good for us. The advantage for us is not having to drive into the City and pay $20 or more a night for parking.
The area has been safe for us and we catch the 320 bus to the bus terminal. This is very close, within walking distance to time square. If you catch the bus before 10 AM during the week the buses get you into the city fast!
Anytime after 10 and they have to use regular traffic lanes and it can take an hour.
I think it would be great to stay in Times Square or around, but for the money, N J has been our way to go. We've done this at least 5 times in the last two years and so far so good.
Good luck. I live in a small town in Virginia and I love the energy of New York. People have always been very helpful whenever I ask for help, and that is usually alot.

As far as Thanksgiving goes, there were some amazing deals on travelzoo just prior to the holiday this year. If you don't want to risk waiting, try these two:
radio city apartments (www.radiocityapartments.com)...LOVE this place. Clean, comfortable and steps from Rockefeller Center. Not fancy but clean.
Jack and Judy's Bed and Breakfast....have not stayed here but have looked into it. Near the Am Museum of Nat History

The Hilton Garden Inn Time square great location, plus they have queen size beds a lot of NYC hotels do not!

I'm sure it's $$$. That's a very popular time, and the hotels are usually priced through the roof.


I have stayed at the Millenium Broadway, Hilton Times Sq., the Waldorf and the Crown Plaza and all were nice hotels. I got them on priceline/hotwire years ago dirt cheap. Not sure what you can get these days on those sites, but check out betterbidding.com

I have checked out some off the suggested hotels and they are pretty much the same price. How do i know what to bid on at priceline? Do i look for 4 star and up? I will also check out the other websites.

If it were me, I would book something now off of travelzoo that you can cancel if you find something better (via Priceline). Look at the specials on the Hilton Garden Inn, the Belevedere or the Millienium Broadway.
About 1-2 weeks prior to bidding on Priceline, go to www.biddingfortravel.com and www.betterbidding.com. See what people are posting they got for your timeframe and how much they paid.
Google the specific hotels and read the trip advisor reviews, make sure you are happy with all of them, once you win the bid, you own it.
I would start with 4 stars in one area then you can rebid by adding another area.

I stayed at the Milford Plaza on 8th Ave near Times Square. Good location, but the room was only slightly larger than the bed.
