where to stay in Aug 2005

I was wondering where the best place for us to stay. We do not want to hotel hop. We are planning on flying into LAX, spen 2-3 days in disney do universal and do a few hollywood tourist stuff before we cruise out on the 8/20 repo cruise. we are trying to find a place that would be central to all of that... any ideas???

Disneyland and Universal/Hollywood are not close together at all and I can't think of anywhere that you would want to stay that is located midway. For the most fun, I would suggest that you stay at one of the Disney hotels. If you can afford it, I would suggest either the Grand Californian or Disneyland Hotel.

The Disneyland resort is very compact - unlike Disneyworld. You can walk to both parks as well as Downtown Disney from all 3 Disney hotels. There are many non-Disney hotels right outside of the park and these would be less expensive than the Disney hotels.

While there is a hotel near Universal, its more of a business hotel and not a touristy hotel. It's not like Florida where they have the cool Loews Hotels. Hollywood is just a short drive from Universal. While there are many interesting things to see in Hollywood - it also can be kind of sleezy.

Also remember that Los Angeles traffic can be rather brutal to the uninitiated. If you are doing any travelling during the weekday (and even weekend can be bad), just keep that in mind.
