You will also notice the lack of humidity. Don't get me wrong, the S. California sun is intense, but without the humidity, your energy level goes much farther!
The DLH is close to ESPN bar if your hubby wants a sports atmosphere.
I think the Disneyland Hotel would fit your needs perfectly if you don't mind the price tag. Great food options onsite plus a very short walk into Downtown Disney. And it's easy and fast to walk to the other DL hotels for a meal there.
It's the no outside corridors requirement that is the tough one. The vast, vast majority of the offsite hotels do have exterior corridors.
There's a new suite hotel at the corner of Harbor and Katella, I think it's a Springhill Suites. I have never stayed there, but it's a new option that's not too far of a walk. I believe there's a review somewhere on the site.
The Marriott and Hilton are other good choices, but they are a longer walk. Totally doable, but not much fun at the end of the night.
One thing to remember is that the parks and resorts are compact. Lots of rides in not a lot of space. You can get from your hotel to the parks in less than 15 minutes--less than that depending on where you stay. So that may appeal to your husband more. It's very easy to park hop and go back and forth to hotels.
I do believe that the Disneyland onsite hotels don't offer the same level of discounts as the WDW hotels do. It's just the nature of the beast.
Based on the criteria I would HIGHLY reccomend the onsite hotels. In our last few trips we have become Disneyland Hotel fans and now have a hard time staying anywhere else unless it's just a quick weekend stop.
It's at the end of Downtown Disney and there are great food options nearby easily. The interior corridors would be all set for you and I find the DLH rooms extremely relaxing. The other benefits are that it is so close in comparison to not having to worry about any shuttles or walking back - walking back through DTD to DLH is my favorite part of the night. We questioned before our first stay at the DLH why we would spend so much..but now..we are converted fans.
I know lots of people enjoy PPH and GCH ; but we have yet to stay there personally. Our first stay was in a standard room and we stayed in a delxue view before too. I prefer being higher up so I try to book what I want but all the rooms are great at DLH. One of my favorite things last trip was heading back early , grabbing food to go at Tangoara terrace and seeing the fireworks go off from our room in frontier tower as we dimmed the lights and had the fireworks channel on. If it's in you budget I just think it would make things easier but definitely weigh all your options. Good luck !
