Where to stay at a good price on/off DW

This is our first trip to Disney and we were planning on staying onsite when we went. However we have an added guest. We are allowing our son's gf to come with us so now we are going to need something with two bedrooms so she can have her own room. It looks like my best bet is to now rent something off site because of the price. So I would of course want something as close as possible to DW. I hate to have to rent a car but I may have to do that to now. Any suggestions and ideas?

We've been to WDW with many a different person along. Hey, they are human just like me, we've shared the room with no problems. Alot of our guests couldn't have gone at all without sharing a room, price wise. All rooms come with 2 beds, we stay delux so 2 queens is great. what do you have to hide. Bathroom time is no problem, we've alway took my mother when she was able, now 86 and too feeble, and was no problem in the same room. Anytime we can share the cost of a deluxe room with another couple, one friend or just daughter and SIL, its a no brainer, we do they agree and never any repercushions. Get over the vanity and live life to its fullest and put the savings in everybodies pocket.

go with a Pop or other value resorts and get two rooms - not connecting you probably don't want to be that close. that adjoining will work fine.

the problem with staying offsite is the coming and going. Especially with different ages. Your Sgm might get tired easily and need to go back to the resort - right when you and your son are just getting started.

with Disney transportation she can without messing up your plans. Otherwise you need to cater to her.

And I can certainly understand wanting your son's girlfriend to have her own space on vacation.

2 rooms at one of the value resorts would work...but you can probably find a 2 bedroom condo or even a 3 bed condo/townhome for the same price.

Or you could even investigate renting DVC points for a 2 bed, onsite

Thank you all for sharing. I was looking to get something two bedroom so the first thing I thought of was if I stayed on site it would cost more money I am not confortable putting her in another room and neither are her parents. Two queen beds wouldn't work as I have two boys. I will check out the vrbo.com. I was telling my dh about us having to thinking about staying off site and he was saying we would have to rent a car which would cost us more money... I then reminded him how much rooms were every nite compared to renting a condo or townhome...

A 2 bedroom at Old Key West or Saratoga Springs, would allow the 2 bedroom scenario..2 queens in the 2nd bedroom, a pull-out sofa in the LR for your son's GF, and the king size bedroom for you and your DH.

You would have the advantage of staying onsite, so no car rental, ease of use of WDW transport, you can even add on the Dining Plan easily for everyone. (DVC stays can add the DP on for the $40/day/adult with no ticket requirements - have it added to reservation, and you pay at check in. Everyone on the reservation has to have it though)

Prices for private DVC rentals are going to run you in the $10-$12/point range...a 2 bed in off season, Sun-Thursday are 22 points/night...so roughly $220/night, no tax.

But no rental car, transport from airport via Magical Express, and a full kitchen and washer dryer..always gets me thinking: aahhh, nice vacation

Then on Friday, head to Universal Studios for the weekend, head home on Sunday

Ouch I just went back and read that it was your 1st trip to Disney. That really changes things in my mind.

I was going to suggest Windsor Hills (which is where we are staying this trip). It is a 3bdr townhouse with its own splash pool at considerably less than what we would normally pay to stay deluxe.

However.... since this is your 1st trip I really can't in all good sense suggest off-site. To 1st timers WDW is a large complex and the signs could be confusing.

Having the transportation and the EMH to be able to take it all in would be important I would think.

Before I make any other suggestions can I ask the ages of those traveling with you? That would make a big difference in my recommendation.

My kids are 16, 11, & (gf turning 15 shortly.)

I would much rather stay on site because of travel but wanted to stay somewhere affortable since we are taking a long an extra.

well you could go with POR, AB section - your guest could sleep on the trundle bed - okay only if she is small....

POR - Port Orleans Riverside - a moderate hotel.

the AB section allows 5 - because of the trundle bed.

It has two double (full) beds as well.

It is probably your cheapest option staying on Disney Property.

yea, 5 people in one room is not my ideal of fun either.

Hmmm this is definitley a quandry. I can see why the parents of the GF wouldn't want her in a hotel room my herself

POR is probably your least expensive option for 5 in a room.

I think you could also do:

Allstar Family Suites - Not sure of the rates or avaiability but this might be an option.

Beach Club or Yaught Club (these rooms have 2 queen beds and a day bed). My DS (13) was very comfortable last year on this and if the GF was small it could work. Or you could do just the 2 queen beds and ask for a roll-away.

The Poly is another option with the same these rooms have 2 queen beds and a day bed arrangement though normally pretty expensive.

How long is your trip? If it is a week and you plan to return an AP might be the way to go for cheaper rates. Or if you AAA that is also an option.

Timing of the trip is also an issue. If you stay onsite there are different seasons and the costs of the resorts go up significantly during certain periods.

I personally would not want my 15 yr old daughter alone in a hotel room at night unless you could guarantee connecting rooms with the door open which Disney won't guarantee.

We are going in November the week after Thanksgiving... We are hoping for a less crowd... When I say two rooms... I actually mean two bedrooms not seperate hotel rooms.... And believe me I have those mom ears and my door will be cracked. lol I did see one hotel it was about 515 a night at the Saratoga Springs..Very nice and would be great for the five of us. And we are staying a week.. So I will keep looking. But if all else fails then I will stay here and just start making payments and really saving....

$1,100 for the 5 days (if not more)

you would be renting from a DVC member. no housekeeping. get a contract.

this is a 2-bedroom - king bed in the master, queen sleeper sofa in the livingroom, 2queen beds in the second bedroom.

it has a full kitchen, washer/dryer, whirlpool tub in the master, shower stall, etc...

it has a lovely balcony!!!

I agree...I think OKW would have the space you need and it would be much cheaper renting from s DVC member. The rooms are huge at OKW.

Renting points for OKW would certainly be your best option for staying on site as you really do need the extra bedroom

When you are responsible for someone elses kid you need to make sure everything is perfect and mom & dad are happy with all the arrangements (particularly the sleeping arrangements I am thinking )

We stayed in a 2-bdr unit at OKW that spiceycat is writing about. Absolutley fabulous vacation and made it tough for even the 3 of us to go back to a "box" for a week

The thing here is that you are renting points from a stranger. We did it and it worked about wonderful and I'd rent from that individual again in a minute! In fact we would have had we been able to change our dates for this trip.

However.... remember you are renting points from a stranger. There is a big thread about someone that lost quite a bit of money doing this. Do you research if you do this!!! I'd only consider those that have a high post count.

If you look on the main board you will see down the page a section on DVC. That will help you with point charts and to see those with points to rent.
