Where to start?

Hi everyone! I haven't visited this board in quite some time since my last Disney trip was in 2013. Well now we are hoping to make another trip in November of 2016 for my daughter's 5th birthday!! Yay! It will be myself, my husband, my daughter who will be 5 and my son who will be 2. We didn't stay on property last time which we plan to do this time and magic bands were just beginning to exist. I'm trying to figure out where to start with the planning. I'm guessing get the resort booked 1st? My question is though, can that be changed later if need be based on the flights we can find? Or how does that work? Also what if a promo comes out can I get them to adjust for that? Any recommendations on dates when there are typically promos? I'd ideally like to be there on her bday which is 11/29 but the dates are flexible on arrival and departure. Where do I begin?!

First you will need a My Disney Experience account. You will make a resort reservation that will link to your MDE account. At 180 days out, you can start making ADRs that will link to your MDE account. At 60 days out you will make FP+ selections that will link to your MDE account. Roughly 15 - 30 days out you will receive magic bands, which are linked to your MDE account. These bands will have all reservations linked to them and they are used for everything at Disney.

As for promos, you are not likely to see any for the time frame you are looking to be there. If there are promos offered, you can change your resort reservation, but only if there are rooms available that are linked to the promos.
