Where on earth do I start looking for an offsite property?! We are going next year in December and just tonight at the table decided it would be best to weigh out our options when it comes to where to stay. I am aware of VRBO and I will look there but are there any other sites? :confused3

TIA for any help!

If you are thinking of a rental home www.vrbo.com and www.homeaway.com are popular sites. Windsor Hills is a pretty popular community to stay in and you can check out http://www.windsorhillsrent.com/. Other close by communities are Emerald Isle, Windsor Palms, Indian Creek...

If you are going to rent a house, you need to decide what you want exactly. How many bedrooms do you want? How many beds do you need for couples, singles, kids... Do you want a pool and spa, or just a pool? Do you want a condo or a stand alone pool house? Do you want a game room? Do you have young children that need complimentary pack and plays, highchairs, or strollers? Do you want TVs in every bedroom?

We personally like to have real beds for everyone in our party and not just pull out couches. We like having a master type bedroom for each adult couple. The more bathrooms there are the better especially if you are traveling with more than one family. We like places that have a lot of deck space and chairs by the pool because we spend a lot of time at the rental house when we go.

Once you narrow down what you want, then start looking for homes that work for you with those criteria. When you narrow it down to 4-5 you can ask for a quote that includes all taxes, fees, and pool/spa heat (if applicable) for your dates. Once you narrow the quotes down based on price, availability and gut feelings, check the tax records to verify ownership and that the property does not owe a lot of back taxes. Once you have done that, you can make a final decision.

Good luck.

Another thing to consider is whether or not you want a house (where it's all DIY) or a property with condos that offer resort features (pools, activities, etc).

We're a family of 6 and I've been tempted to rent a house, but I've found that staying in hotels is better because my kids like interacting and meeting other children at the hotel pools. If I was going with another family, I'd prefer a SFH rental.

Once you know the type of accommodation you're looking for, you can start narrowing it down based on the amenities you'd like to have available.

Happy Planning!!
