Where to start?

This is our first ever family vacation. We have never been to Disney. We were hoping to go for DD's b-day/Christmas in December. We will be driving f/ Texas with a 5 yr old, 1 and 2 year old!


How far in advance should we get everything paid for?
Best time to go to DL?
Best place to stay?

I would start by picking up a few guide books from your local used bookstore. Personally, I like the Unofficial guide but I've also heard great things about Passporter.

I would also register with the companion site for the Unoficial guide... while you can't make your own disneyland touring plans there (yet...) you CAN plan your vacation, including a "when to do it" check sheet. This is a great tool for keeping up with all the timelines.

Then just hang out on the disboards for a few months and watch the shenanigans. The people on here are VERY knowledgable and happy to help!

Yes, read a tour book and hang out here, read the threads and ask any questions you might have! There's tons of info here. Just watch out because it's addicting!

I liked the Unofficial Guide, too, but I think the best tips are in Hydroguy's Tips compilation, a sticky thread at the top of this forum. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1520483
