Our kids (one in high school and one in college) will finally have the same spring break this year and we want to take a family vacation, but we are struggling with figuring out where. We know we don't wany the following:
-No Disney
-No Cruise
-I am not really interested in all-inclusive because none of us really drink and I think so much of that big price tag is booze. But I am open!

We will be coming from Minnesota, so driving somewhere can be dicey.

Please let me know of any amazing places you have done for spring break!

Thanks!

I realize it's driving but what about Gatlinburg area? Dollywood amusement park, hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. And a similar vibe to Wisconsin Dells with all the touristy attractions like go-karts, mini golf, candy shops, etc. Assuming you've been to The Dells since you are next to WI. We are in the midwest as well and have often went on roadtrips during Spring Break season, we just plan the first day of driving might be a little slower moving so we don't rush to get someplace that day. Last time we went to we had snow in the morning. Usually we like being on the road by 5a for roadtrips, but we waited around until about 8a to leave once the roads were clear and worked perfectly.

To fly, we love Atlantis in the Bahamas. It is not all-inclusive.

We definitely thought about this. Is everything open in the area in mid-March?

I assume you mean next year since this year's spring breaks are long over. How about a National Park?

Have you done DC before? We went one spring break (April for DS's high school). - We loved the history, Smithsonian museums, zoo, etc., and even caught the end of the cherry blossoms!

We are thinking of the Grand Canyon for next year's spring break. The kids have asked about going and preliminary research said spring of fall were the best times to visit.

What does your family like to do together? Museums? Theatre? Concerts? Sporting Events?

Good spring break national parks - Saguaro (AZ add on phoenix or Scottsdale), Joshua Tree & Death Valley (CA), Everglades, Biscayne bay, Dry Tortugas (FL), Bandelier, white sands, Carlsbad Cavern (NM)

My kids have different spring break so this year I did Spain with one and Hawaii with all. Loved both. next year they will overlap so Japan is the plan. Did Boston with one last year.
Other ideas I am thinking are iceland.
I really would love to to arizona one spring break.

Costa Rica was my first thought.

Second, Grand Canyon. You could hit other areas in California or Arizona.

For Gatlinburg we went the year before COVID and everything was open mid-March. I think Dollywood wasn't open everyday though. It seems though some places since COVID don't seem to open as early in the season or some places still close earlier than normal. So you'll likely have to reach out to top places you want to do. But the National Park is always open.
