Where to sit for Hoop Dee Doo Revue?

I was planning on using my dining plan (2 Table service credits) for Hoop Dee Doo in July, but then found out with the first and second show of the evening, you can only have category 2 or 3 seating. We wanted category 1 to be closer to the action. Since I was going to have to pay OOP for our Tusker House Reservation for Breakfast, I'm thinking instead I should just pay OOP for Hoop Dee Doo and use the DDP for Tusker. it's going to end up costing me more $ but then we have better category 1 seats.

Can someone who has seen the show tell me, is it worth it to have Category 1 seats, where all the action is?

Thanks
Erin

Not really. We actually had a crick in our necks when we were Cat.1 because we were too close to the stage. We have had various Cat 2 and 3 tables over the years and can honestly say that we never had a bad table. In fact I think some of the Cat 2 tables on the balcony have a better view!

Sorry Minnie Mum We are of the opposite opinion :rotfl: Just another example of how we all have different opinions.
We felt being right up at the stage was great. There was lots of "eye interaction" between DH and one of the female performers. It was hysterical and we all enjoyed it. I paid OOP for Cat 1 seating and I am glad we did.
I think your plan sounds good.

I agree with this. DD and I were in the front row on our last trip, and both said we wished we had been up in the balcony, it was just too close for us. I wouldn't pay extra for that location again.

We sat at table 13 in Cat 1. right up front, right at the middle of the stage. It was amazing. But I am sure anything would be good, they make their way around the whole room (there was no balcony seating, it was the 8:30pm show).

We've only been once. We sat on the balcony near the stage. We really enjoyed our seats and had a great view. My family likes to watch and would not want to participate, so these were perfect seats for us. :)

We've been to HDDR five times and we pay oop for cat 1 seats now. For us it is worth it. We enjoy being close to the front.

I think the seats in the balcony would be fine if you don't care about being close, but I would not want to sit way in the back on the floor. On our first trip we ended up back there and we felt so out of it - if the kids hadn't loved the show as much as they did I don't think we would have gone back a second time, they all begged to go so we gave it a second try. On our second trip they had the category options and we ended up in the third row from the stage and it was soooo much better. Our last trip was Thanksgiving 2011 and we were in the second row from the stage and dh became the object of a certain performer's attention and it was hilarious! We are not ones to seek out attention but dh was a good sport and the kids loved it!

HOOP-DEE-DO-REVIEW CAT-3 SEATING:

1) Cat-3 isn't bad, if
. . . you don't mind turning around - one half of seats face away from stage
. . . you might have a pillar in your way - five posts per side
. . . your kids are tall enough - short kids might have railing in the way
. . . you don't mind climbing stairs to your seat - not handicapped accessible
2) Some people don't mind Cat-3.
. . . entertainers still visit the upstairs
. . . the food is not cold
. . . they like viewing down on the stage

Let's face it, whether HDDR, Broadway, or your local live theater, the expensive
seats (eg. Cat-1 at HDDR) are ALWAYS the best. Sure, some like the balcony
at HDDR, but Cat-1 is still the best.

Paid out of pocket for category 3 in December (not on DP). We were pleasantly surprised when instead of being escorted upstairs we were seated at one of tables in the tables in the back (counter-height tables). I guess it was a slow night!!

We were at HDDR on Jan 7 and there were so few people they put us all in Category 1 seating. I don't know if that is how everyone booked (I think I booked a Category 2), but we were all very close to the front and the room was only about half full. It was very nice that way and had great interaction with the show.

Table 13 is the BEST seat if you can get it. We are now '3' so we have to wait until "the Angel" goes to college before we can get it again.

Always liked it because the ladies on stage like to flirt.

No place better, unless, you can get Table 13 for a Christmas show.

We were front and center against the stage and got a little more cast interaction that we bargained for! It was a blast and we would pay for Cat. 1 again!

I'm not a HDDR "Veteran"....

I know we went when I was a child....

Went back in 2010 with DS.... maybe because it was just us 2... we were in Cat 1 and where I sat... I almost could not see the stage (that's how close we were)

I actually kept moving my chair to try to see.....

So.... went with Cat 2 for next visit (May 2012) and hoping to get better seats since we'll be with the whole family... and a larger group.

I'm sure some WONDERFUL Cat 1 seats exist....we just weren't fortunate to experience that.....
PS: Due to "Crunching of Numbers... although I paid already for this ressie I will plan to switch it to DDP / Regular Dining plan and "spend" 2 TS

Have a Magical Visit !
Mary

Table 13 is the BEST seat if you can get it. .

1) Table numbers have meaning,
. . . EXAMPLE: table #052
. . . 0 = floor-level
. . . 5 = fifth-row-from-front
. . . 2 = second-table-from-left
2) Tables are moved around to accommodate number of guests per that table.
3) Locations
. . . Cat-1 tables are main floor from stage thru row-8
. . . Cat-2 tables are the seven tables in row-9 on main floor
. . . Cat-2 tables are the last four tables left and right wings main floor
. . . Cat-2 tables are the eight rear balcony tables facing stage
. . . Cat-3 tables are the eight tables on both balcony sides
. . . Cat-2 and Cat-3 tables may have posts in the viewing way
. . . most Cat-3 tables require you to turn around or crank your neck to see

There is a chance even if you go with cat. 1, you wouldn't be super close to the stage. Seating is done according to when you make your ressies. If you make a ressie as soon as your window for doing so comes up, you probably would be very close to the stage. That said, cat. 1 extends half way to the back of the hall.
The only time we didn't care for our seats as much is when we went to the early show and had seats about 3/4 of the way back. There were a lot of small children and we noticed the noise during the show a lot.

1) Table numbers have meaning,
. . . EXAMPLE: table #052
. . . 0 = floor-level
. . . 5 = fifth-row-from-front
. . . 2 = second-table-from-left

I never realized that was the code to the table numbers! Very cool to know. Thanks for posting it!

Have done HDDR several times. Did Category 2 once. That was enough. It's Category 1 or we don't go.

We will always pay up for the Cat 1 seating. A few times we've been off to the side and in 2010 we were about 2/3's of the way back in the center. But many times we have been right up front and had lots of interaction with the performers.

Twice DD has been part of the state song about where you are from and she just loves it. This past trip the blonde interacted with us throughout the whole show and DS couldn't take his eyes off her. He loved it.

We love the HDDR and if the only way I could go was to sit in Cat 3 then I would, but as long as we can, we'll pay for Cat 1.

Does anyone know if they are using the Hoop dee doo song again?
