I just want to add that the kids choices are really BETTER than they were during our Oct 2006 trip. We were a family of 5 with one child an "adult" and two children "kids" on the DDP. Our trip coincided with Disney's official launch of the "healthy kids meals"
They had the 3 meals in the Mickey head plates and 2 other choices at all the TS places we ate at. CM's refused to do subs anywhere. For instance, at SCi-Fi my DD could get a burger but it came with apples. I asked for fries and was told flat-out "no." When I asked why, the CM just sighed and asked if I wanted to talk to the manager. I didn't, and asked if they had been getting a lot of complaints about the new "healthy" menus and she sighed again and said "You have no idea." These choices were the same at every TS place whether we used the DDP or not. We paid cash OOP at SCI-FI for example and still couldn't get fries instead of apples. We paid cash OOP at Brown Derby and Mama Melrose and it was they same thing. I bought my two younger kids adult desserts at both Brown Derby and Mama Melrose because the "all in one" meals they got included their desserts-I think it was low-fat yogurt or apples.
Also, NONE of CS places we ate at would give fries instead of grapes/carrots. I had to argue for sodas. I completed two online surveys upon returning home and told Disney that their kids meals were with out a doubt the very worst part of my trip. Shortly after our trip Disney re-vamped the kids TS menus AGAIN and put back some favorites and I've read that both TS and CS places now allow subs of fries, and soda. They also removed some things all together-any one remember Just Dip it? It was a "dinner" of a small serving of raw veggies and low-fat dip. I believe low-fat yogurt was the included "dessert."
If I had know about this "healthy" launch, I may not have bought the DDP. Or, I may have bought it and just supplemented it by buying other items like I did. Besides desserts at TS places, I bought my younger kids fries, onion rings and carrot cake at CS places. I bought them burgers at CS places when they hated the choices. (sometimes the CM's just let me use the CS credits for this, even though I was willing to pay)
I still think the DDP is a good deal, and it's even better now that Disney improved the kids choices. However, I don't think it's an all-inclusive-you don't have to spend any $$ OOP plan. It doesn't include 3 meals a day. TheDisneyBunch-how do you plan to spend no extra $$ OOP? Also, you absolutely can buy your child the adult plan! You have to "up" him in age and pay the adult ticket price. I know for a fact you can do this, because I have done this for our May 08 trip at the POLY! The CM's said "no problem."
So, in short Disney's kids choices have not ALWAYS been better during the last two years. Hope that makes you feel better!
