I have some items that I need to get rid of. They have been sitting in my closet for months and I haven't even touched them. I love this board and thought this would be the perfect place to get some advice on where to trade or sell my items. I know nothing about EBAY or CraigsList. I do like to do yardsales but we live way in the rural area of the county and don't get any visitors except the neighbors. I have a cricut machine only used once. Got it for Christmas last year. I have the bag (never opened) adn cricut design studio software stuff (never opened). I also have lots of boys clothes from 9 -18 months, a PDA (don't know how to use), dvd's, and other items. I'm trying to get rid of stuff that's collecting dust. Any ideas are welcome!!!

I just looked on ebay-- cricut stuff is HOT! You wouldn't have any trouble selling that. The PDA ought to sell. The kids clothes, depends on brands. DVDs, I don't know, I've never tried to sell those. I picked up ebay pretty quickly with no help -- it's not too complicated. Craigslist might be an option, but since you live in a rural area, it might be tough -- you wouldn't necessarily want strangers coming to your home (the smartest thing to do is to deliver your items at a public place, like a McDonald's or library).

The two biggest things to be sure of are: 1) check your pricing. Know how much the item goes for new, and check how much it's selling for on ebay (along the left hand side of the page, there's a box to check off for "completed listings" -- that will show items that have closed, and whether they sold and for how much). That will help you price yours so it will sell and not just sit.
And 2), price your shipping reasonably. Put the whole thing in the box you'll ship it in, weigh it, and go to the Postal Service or UPS websites and price the actual cost of shipping. This has been my downfall more than once -- I've underpriced shipping and I had to pay the difference.

Take a photo of your items with a digital camera or find a photo you can copy and paste before you start making your listing. Ebay will walk you through the whole process. You'll need to set up a Paypal account so you can get paid. Read ads and descriptions (the box for the item will probably do) so you can put as much info into your listing as possible. Be honest about the quality and usage of the item.

Good luck! It's much better to have cash on hand that unused stuff in the closet.

I have a wonderful friendly acquaintance who specializes in organizing homes and helping people get rid of their stuff (selling through EBay, area thrift stores, etc.) She's *amazing*, I've been able to make a tiny bit of money but get RID of stuff that became junkycluttertakingoverthehousedonchaknow...
She charges a certain percentage to handle the deals, but it is *worth* it. I wish I had sold my doll collection through her rather than using a specialty auction-house, I *know* I would have gotten better returns. And because she's an EBay Power-Seller with great ratings (high 90s%) she gets better prices than I could ever get. Anyway, maybe you can find someone who sells things like that to take some of the stuff off your hands and to sort of teach you how to look at your 'stuff'.

Good luck,
agnes!

If you're not necessarily looking to make money off the stuff, try Freecycle.com. We use it all the time - I don't have time to deal with monetary transactions, packaging, mailing, etc. I advertise stuff, people respond, they come by and pick it up. It's gone.

I also get a lot of stuff for myself through freecycle. Just got an electric grill!
