For those that rent DVC point for their stay who do you rent from? I've seen David's and DVC Rental Store. I just want to make sure they are reputable and no one has had scamming issues or any other kinds of issues with them. Thanks!

I rented DVC points once before DH and I became members. We found a renter on the rent/trade board here on the DIS.

I highly recommend David's service.
We're DVC owners and we recently rented points using his service and it was super easy!

I have thought about that, but to be honest it really make me extremely nervous. I know many people have good experiences, but I worry I will be the one who will get scammed.

If you use one of the brokers (David, etc.) the person you're renting the points from won't get their money until you've taken your vacation. No scams involved.

If you're that concerned about being scammed, you probably won't be a good candidate to rent from an individual on the Rent/Trade boards. Those transactions take trust on both sides. But you should be perfectly fine going through a broker.

Actually, I thought the owner got half the money up front and the other half at the start of the trip.

You have to remember that with purchasing a reservation from a DVC member, it's between you and the member. Disney will not get involved in any way. You won't be able to call about the reservation, to add Magical Express, to add dining. You'll have to pay in full to add the dining plan when you add it to the reservation. There is no possiblity of a surprise upgrade unless the villa you booked is taken out of service for maintenance. And then you might even be moved to another DVC resort to a villa of the same size and category.

Deb&Bill is correct. When we rented through David's we got half when the "renter" signed the contract and we got the remainder the day that they checked in.
This was to protect them I guess in case for some reason our account was on hold or we had done something to their reservation.
I also think that with David's you have to pay up front and the reservation is non-refundable.
