Where to put the groceries?

Hello all,

I’ve benefitted from your posts and ideas for a couple of years now, so thank you!
One thing I can’t find info on, is how to organize the food we have at Pop Century.

We’ve tried DDP and grocery delivery, and for my family we prefer to have our own food. We don’t spend a lot of time in the room, but I like to keep it organized!

For the cold stuff we use a cooler. I pack it with clothes or towels and check it if we fly.

For the rest, I’ve done bins on the counter and they just seem to be - busy. Obviously we are in a Value Resort and I understand the space constraints of that, so I wondered if there was a cool idea I haven’t seen, yet.

I’m also working on a good way to use the under bed space for clothes
(aside from in suitcases), and the coat rack...

I love to think of new ways to organize. It’s like a hobby, and how I use a lot of my Disney planning time.

Thank so much!

You're really overthinking things.
How much food do you bring or even need if you're not in the room much?
I would think that setting the food on the provided coffee counter area would be good.
They do have a mini fridge in the room as well.
I can't see having so much food that I also need a whole cooler and need to figure out how to "organize" food.

Also not sure why you need to use under the bed for clothing?
How much clothing are you bringing that it cannot be put in drawers/closet space or kept in y9our suitcase until needed?

Its a resort hotel not a house/apartment.

We stayed at POP the last time we traveled with the kids, and had groceries in the room for breakfast and packed lunches to bring to the parks.

We used the top drawers of the dresser for boxed snacks and paper goods. The cereal, apples and bananas were on top of the dresser.

We don't generally use the drawers for clothes, but we would have had plenty of available drawers for that if we needed.

It may be different now, but I don't recall there being space underneath the beds in POP (I think the bed frame was a solid box). Also if you are in a refurbished room, one of the beds is a murphy bed that folds up into the wall, so that would eliminate one area of potential storage (if underbed is a possibility), just so you are aware.

We also pack our meals with us, only occasionally eating in the parks for snacks or character meals. So I feel like we have a lot of food in the room!

Drawers is a great idea. I usually pack them full of clothes that don’t all fit.

I used some bins under the bed last summer - for socks and such. We were in a refurbished room.

Everything out and in my face is what bugs me. Closing them up in a bin or drawer is ideal!

Thanks!

We stay for 2 weeks as well and order breakfast supplies and snacks from Garden Grocer. Food goes on the desk counter area and in the fridge. Never been an issue and never given it any further thought. We stay at CSR which might have a bit more space, but I certainly wouldn't be lugging a cooler or containers for food on our trip.

Sounds like an OCD? LOL

In the rooms now there is space under the beds for storage at POP with the refurb - and all of the rooms are refubred now at POP

The new beds are open underneath, with room for suitcases or other things.

Not denying it - but I can’t be the only one!?
I just call myself a “planner”.

We put our food on the shelves in the closet because we’re all tall enough to reach it and I don’t like food clutter at eye level on the dresser.

I've never personally done this, but have seen some people recommend using the collapsible accordion type hanging shoe organizers. You hang it in the closet and put food or toiletry items in it to keep counters clear.

What about using the collapsible cubes from the dollar store? Mark them "Breakfast", "Snacks", etc and put them on the shelf above the hanging clothes?

I’ve thought about that for this trip. I’ve used the one with the pockets before - but I think it just spreads out the clutter to my eye. I saw someone who put lightweight containers on each shelf, and I like that.

These are what I used last year. They are awesome! I won’t tell how many I took on vacation....

We did an 11 night stay back in September and also drove which gave us lots of options - we had a cooler which we used for our case of water and a few 6 packs of non-Coke pop. I had also brought peanut butter and Luna snack bars for my husbands midnight snack attacks. We also had some chips, Crystal Lite, plastic forks, spoons and knives, straws, Advil, 1st Aid packs etc.

We were at AKL so we had extra storage space - BUT what about those collapsible storage cubes? Depending on how much you bring you may only need 1 of them. If you're flying they fold flat so they don't take up a ton of luggage space and they are easy to move around in the room.

We did this last year. Stayed in the new POP rooms for 2 weeks. There is open space under the beds now for luggage. There is also a lot of storage in the sink area. They do now have shelving unit that holds the fridge and that has a surface you can make sandwiches, etc on. We have a cooler also (DH goes through a lot of water) and we placed it right under the window. I also do not like a lot of clutter and our table gets used for DH's laptop printer for work. So we are limited on space, but need to take extra stuff with us that most people don't have to . We also use the drawers for chips, granola bars, paper plates, etc.

I really like neat. Especially in tight quarters. But this degree of obsession does seem to be a bit OCD to me. Count me as one neatnik that can’t relate. Good Luck

Oh dang, am I the only one that does NOT bring food with me? LOL I guess if I did have a bunch of groceries, I would probably stack some in the closet and some on the dresser.
