Hi all,

Anyone know of a list of non-Disney (gasp) hotels that can be booked thru DVC? The list from II that came with our contract is really not in any particular order and is hard to find anything in it...thanx......

The "World Passport Collection" list of II resorts is available online at the members only site.

Enjoy!

Where do you want to go, what size unit do you need and how long to you plan to stay?

Well, for example, lets say I wanted to stay in the Williamsburg,VA, area. I looked into the book/website and found two resorts, one of which is the Williamsburg Plantation. On the bottom of the description it says RED 9-52 and Yellow 1-9. Is that the point value for that resort??????

The Concierge Collection (hotels & inns) have corresponding point charts similar to staying at DVC resorts.

When you want to try out one of the World Passport Collection resorts, such as Williamsburg Plantation, MS arranges a trade. The phrases like RED, etc. have to do with the popularity of these resorts and seasons, etc., etc. There is no set point chart for trading. MS has to find a match between when you want to go and when someone from there wants to come to one of the DVC resorts. The points needed are determined when a match is made. Usually these trades are Saturday to Saturday but they sometimes can do them for smaller or different time slots. Figure you need at least enough points to spend a week in a one-bedroom.

I haven't done any of these trades yet and it sounds like sometimes they are arranged for fewer points than I mention. It's just not as cut and dried as looking at the point chart.

For Williamsburg Summer I'd assume OKW Dream or Magic for the same size unit. Just put in a request with Member Services which you can do up to now 2 years out. If you want next summer, start now. Also consider a direct exchange with a Marriott member for Manor Club. There are no options for Williamsburg that will give you anything other than a 7 night stay. Manor Club start days are Friday, Sat and Sunday. Also there are now 5 II options for Williamsburg and I would expect four of them to be on the DVC exchange list before long. Williamsburg plantation will likely be the lowest option of the four.

Remember that most Williamsburg options are 2 BR so if you want something smaller, you will have less chances of a match. On the other hand if you are looking for a 1 BR WITH AN ONGOING SEARCH, they might offer you a 2 BR instead. It's much like a poker game, you must know when to hold em and when to fold em.

Every exchange destination will be different but the principles will still apply. The one positive about the exchange system using DVC is that if you don't get what you want, no harm done since you have not given up your points unless you match and accepted the exchange.
