Where to go for lunch?

Hi,

I'm a bit confused by the whole ADR thing, and seeing as I've only been to WDW a few times I don't really know anything about the restaurants there :confused3

I'm going to be in MK on my 24th birthday, and I would like to eat somewhere nice for lunch. Is there anywhere that I wouldn't have to have an ADR for but is nice enough as somewhere kind of special for a birthday lunch?

Thanks for any help :flower3:

Tables service restaurants at the Mk are VERY popular and are difficult to get in without an adr.You can try and do walkups, but there is no guarantee you will get a table. The Cs places at MK are ok, but nothing special.

I've never been but I've heard nice things about The Plaza at MK and I'm not sure you would need an ADR.

But, to make it a great birthday try for Crystal Palace for a late breakfast/early lunch if you time it right, I bet you could get in and spend your B-Day with Pooh!

I had lunch at the Plaza Restaurant on my b'day last year. It was such a hoot! All of the Main Street 'players' were talking to us outside while we were waiting for our table, saw that it was my birthday and that we had just gotten engaged, and made such a big deal about us! They then came in shortly after we were seated and announced we were the 100th customers of the day (or something like that) and gave us a certificate, posed for pics, and gave us free dessert! It was truly memorable.
I would recommend ADR's for any TS in the MK though, they get very crowded; Plaza especially because it is very small in size, as well as the character dining locations (CP and CRT).

We love the Plaza. However, I strongly recommend you get an ADR. The last two years we've done lunch there and walk-ups were turned away both times.

I believe that you need an ADR (Advanced Dining Reservation) for any TS (Table Service) restaurant in the MK. I agree the Plaza is very nice, but it is mainly sandwiches and great ice cream treats.
If you decide to not get an ADR my choice for CS (Counter Service) would be Columbia Harbour House.
Or you could choose to leave the MK and eat lunch at one of the Monorail resort restaurants. My recommendation would be lunch at Kona Cafe at the Poly. I believe (not positive) that you would need an ADR here too. In my opinion, that would be a special lunch. It is easy to get to and then back from the Poly. Either take the Monorail or Motor Launch, It would be a nice diversion on your birthday.
Have a Great Day

Thankyou for the replies! :flower3:

I think I might try the Kona Cafe then. How do ADR's work? Do you have to pay for the whole thing before you go or just give them your card details?

Thanks for your help everyone, Im so useless with things like this so it really helps to come on here :thumbsup2

You do not need a credit card for Kona Cafe (there are only certain Signature restaurants, Fantasmic Package, Cinderella Castle) that need a credit card hold. You can call Disney Dining and give them the day and time you'd like the reservation and they will look to see if that slot is available.

You need to call ASAP,you just call tell and ask the CM which restaurants that you want her to check to see if there is some availability, you can have her check as many restaurants as you like tell her the time & date that you want or just ask her the times that are open. you will give her some info but no payment is needed unless you are trying to book Cindys Royal Table and places like that, and if you dont get what you want call multiple times a day people cancel all the time good luck and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Here is the number to call for dinnig

Thanks so much for your help, I'll give tham a call ASAP :thumbsup2

Thanks again, I really appreciate it :flower3:

We went in December last year & were able to get a table for 4 walking up to Crystal Palace. I think we waited about 45 minutes, so not horrible. Just something to keep in mind if you don't get an ADR.

Another place that's nice is the Grand Floridian Cafe. You'd take the monorail to get there, too. You may have luck eating here without an ADR.

Crystal Palace for lunch was fabulous! The characters were great, they really made our day, plus they came to our table more then once. Also, the food was REALLY good and everyone found something that they liked! Plus, you may even get a walk-up here because, our ADR was at 2:00, and we wanted to eat at 12:00 so we asked if there was an earlier time, and the lady said how about now? We got right in!:)
