Where to go for a bra fitting??

I am 37.5 weeks pregnant, and need to order nursing bras. From what I have read online, I am ok to be fitted now. However, I don't want to have to choose from the 3 bras they have in most stores - I have a brand that I have liked from my last two kids, and just want to order them online.

Do you think I can just go to Nordstrom like usual and ask to be fitted? I always buy my regular bras there, so they have made their money on me through the years. Or am I being unfair to go in with absolutely no intention of buying anything?

I changed a lot from when I was pregnant till when my milk came in.

I was a 38DDD pregnant and a 36 H when my milk came in.

I would maybe buy one of those nursing sleep bras, they are comfortable and stretchy from Motherhood then get measured. The lactation consultant at our hospital did measurements and also sold the Medela bras.

Although I must agree, Nordstroms does the best bra fittings!

In general, I would get fitted at the place you're going to buy, or buy exactly what they recommend to you (buy there or online later).


Since you've been down this route before, you know your body best.

But with me, I only *thought* my bra size had increased until after my milk came in. And in and in and in even more. Terrific for my kidlet! Difficult to pay for all the bras.


And then I discovered that I absolutely cannot abide by nursing bras. So I just got softcup, non-underwire, bras in the right size and called it good.


But the answer to your question is...buy exactly what they suggest, b/c I've found that sizings in one manufacturer/style just don't translate to another.

I went to JC Penny. The ladies were really nice there and I didn't feel at all uncomfortable. I was shocked when I found out my true bra size instead of what I had been shoving my twins into.

i would go to where you are going to buy your bras. as someone that used to do bra fittings its a lot of work that is wasted when someone gets nothing, also each bra, style, and company will fit different so you can be a cup size or two off if you get fitted at one place and buy from another. fit yourself. first find your band size, then your cup, when trying on bras the band should be firm, make a ring around your body (if it goes up you are not getting support- that means the front will go down) and fit on the middle or loosest hook. straps should not dig in too much or slip- make sure to adjust. depending on your shape the cup may have slight gapping, but it should comfortably fit the roundest part and once a shirt is on you shouldnt see the gapping. underwire should be flat against the skin/breast bone, if its digging its a bad fit if its gaping off its a bad fit. happy shopping!

Where did you find a 36 H nursing bra? Did you buy them at the hospital? I'm normally a 34 DD. Now that I'm pregnant, I am a 36 DDD (well, I was, those bras are actually a bit tight now that I am nearing the end of pregnancy). I have been to several stores; I can't find any nursing bras large enough. Most stores don't carry anything above a DD. I know I will probably get even larger once she is here; but I thought I would get at least one bra before she arrives.

OP sorry to hijack your thread? I would probably get fitted at the place you get your bra. That is what I plan to do if I can ever find a store that actually carries my size.

See, that is exactly my problem. My NORMAL size is 36G. G stands for Ginormous I HAVE to buy them online - there are no stores I can go to for purchasing!

I think what I am going to do is buy a few cheapie stretch bras until my milk is fully in (thanks for the tips). Hopefully my hospital will do fittings - thanks for the suggestion!!

I have some of the stretchy sleep bras. I do like them for sleeping and just staying around the house. Maybe I will just take those to the hospital. Hopefully, my hospital, too, will do measurements and sell nursing bras that will work. They do have a lacatation center there.

I went to Nordstroms over the weekend, and was disappointed...they don't even carry my size.. They suggested another store, which I had planned on going to... They said I am a 48 DDD, but another place had me as a 46 F or something like that..but the other place didn't have comfy bras in my size. Is that too much to ask for? LOL!!!

DD14 isn't happy with me...she takes after me, and keeps needing new bras every 4 months... she is ready to kill me .

I am having a scheduled c/s a week from tomorrow at 7:30 am - wheee!!! I am sure I will go into labor Friday night, though - we're having the rugs cleaned and I'm sure my water will break as soon as the guys leave

I lived in a smaller town in Kansas at the time, so no maternity stores there. The lactation consultant at the hospital stocked them and sold them. It was a Modela (sp? it's been too long LOL almost 2 years!). Not cheap but definitely fit well.

Welcome to the large ta ta's club. My daughter wouldn't latch, and I ended up pumping for a few weeks, but I had lots of issues...wrong size of the suction things for the pump, really bad case of mastitis. Unfortunately when I gave birth the ONE lactation consultant was on vacation.

The stretchy sleep bras are what I wore a lot of, worked well as the girls were "growing" LOL.

Congrats. Good Luck with the rugs. I'm due July 14th so I have about 5 more weeks.

I would get something to tide me over. I bought 2 nursing bras in a size bigger than I was at the time and they didn't fit me until about 3 months postpartum. Until then I wore nursing tanks from Target. Until my supply regulated, my ****s were ginormous. Once your supply gets regulated, then I would head to the store, get measured and then order online.

It's pretty important. If you pump in the hospital they will give you a kit with the "standard" size. I was two sizes up from that, which was the largest without special ordering. I was very torn up from it, because it was about a week later when I got the bigger size, and ended up with an infection.

I'm sure all will go well for you tho. Don't let my story scare you!
