Where to get a cake with GOOD frosting?

On a trip to WDW a few years ago, we ordered a cake from either boardwalk or beach club (can't remember which). The frosting ruined the cake for us. I thought it was just us and our "southern" tastes. However, I recently read a report where someone got a cupcake from the boardwalk bakery and said the iciing was vile, tasting like butter flavored crisco. Since that is exactly what we thought, I figured maybe it's not just us. We are going to be at WDW this year over two birthdays and was wondering if anyone knew where we could get a cake without this type of frosting? We're not big chocolate fans and would prefer regular birthday cake type, but don't want to make the mistake of getting one like before. Any ideas?

I'm interested in this thread as well. I don't think I'm a very picky eater but the frosting on the cake we ordered at Citricos for our anniversary was pretty bad. We just ate around it. It was very greasy and didn't have much flavor. Maybe us southerners like sweet frosting?

Well, we've ordered our anniversary cake from the Boardwalk Bakery for our dinner at Cape May for July 30th. So we'll see.

But the last 2 years we've had our anniversary dinner at the Grand Floridian, and not only was the cake good, but so was the icing. It was a butter creme icing, and it felt like silk melting in your mouth. I am a baker and cake decorator, and know good from bad for sure. And theirs was so yummo!!
So I would for sure recommend a cake from GF.

Blessings,
Winnie

I am very particular about my icing as well I like buttercream but greasy and not extra sweet. Who has the cake for me?

My suggestions that you might want to try:
the Blue Zoo has some amazing desserts "cake w/ frosting"- but the ones that I had are mostly chocolate.... The CG has some kind of pinapple frosting cake (omg good)

That is how our last cake was, greasy and not sweet. Maybe that's how cakes are in other parts of the country????? I'm used to rich, sweet icing, though, so that's what I'm looking for. Maybe, as I said before, it's a southern thing. Like sweet tea, does Disney just not make that?
