Do any of you happen to know if there are smaller (cheaper) airports to fly into Florida? We have to rent a car anyway, so I figured we might could save some money flying into an airport other than Orlando.

Also, looking for any great codes/deals on rental cars.

Can you tell we're trying to do a budget friendly trip?

TIA!!!

Sanford is close by and if Allegiant flies out of an airport near you that might be an option.

DS and I did this at the beginning of June - we were able to fly rt for $83/person into Sanford. We rented a car at there and it took about an hour to get to WDW. The airport is nice and small, easy to get through.

I thought of doing the same thing but...I found the car rental was MUCH cheaper at Orlando. Enough to off set the increase in airfare. Where are you flying from? AirTran has very inexpensive flights. We are trying them for the first time. Even with the baggage and seat fees they are $400 less than Southwest for the 4 of us.

Going to check both of those options right now. Thanks for the quick info. We're flying from Raleigh. We could also fly from Myrtle Beach (mom has a place there). So, I get a bit overwhelmed at trying to find the best deal.

try Tampa... from the airport its about 1.5-2hours based on traffic.

We here usually go to Orlando to our destinations since its the caribbean and Ihave more options in Orlando..

But you can try..

To recap and add...

Tampa - Southwest (and other majors) fly there, frequently; plus, it's just a straight shot on I-4 to/from WDW.

Sanford - Allegiant Air flies there from some of the lesser-used airports around the country (e.g., Rockford, IL and Allentown, PA). It's about 30 or so minutes from WDW.

Melbourne/Space Coast area - Melbourne International Airport (MLB) is served by Delta (both Mainline and Express to/from Atlanta) and U.S. Airways Express to/from Charlotte. It's about 45 minutes from WDW on the Atlantic side of the state.

Also agree with Tampa. Flights on SWA were atleast $30 o/w cheaper than MCO. And I just Pricelined a mid-sized car at TPA in mid August for $15/day. :cool1:

Allegiant flies from Greensboro, NC to Orlando's Sanford airport.

Southwest flies Raleigh-Durham to Orlando MCO.

You will need to search on the website of each company since they don't sell through the major online travel agency sites like Expedia or Travelocity.

Thanks for all the advice. I just can't seem to get the flight down to our budget. We've decided to drive. The cheapest flight I could find was $600.00, and that would include a 5 hour drive to Myrtle Beach. I figured by the time we got that far, we were almost half way to Orlando anyway. We decided to split the drive up and stay overnight in GA, (but used my Marriott points for that). Thanks again for all the advice.

PS... glad to know about Allegiant in Greensboro, it's only 45 minutes from our house!
