Where to find the best maternity clothes?

This is my first time being pregnant as DD3 was adopted. I bought some items at Land's End but I am wondering where else to look for basic, good quality Maternity clothes? I don't need super-expensive or fancy clothes, just nice.

I just thought of Old Navy too after I posted, and a store kind of nearby carries the Maternity line...thanks! I'll check Gap's website too.

CONGRATS!!! :Pinkbounc
Someone already said Old Navy and Gap. The Motherhood store has some great basics-T's, jeans, black skirts, black pants, bras, etc...also Walmart has some cheap maternity clothes, Target, Mervyn's, Sears and JCPenney.
There is a website called Babystyle.com and they always have really nice maternity clothes. Have fun!

Places like Pea in The Pod have great clothes, but way too expensive for my tastes for maternity. I generally get quite a bit from Gap and Old Navy then some from Motherhood Maternity. This time around though (my first two were winter babies and this one is a summer baby), I actually found the majority of my clothes from Target. It was one of the few places that actually carried (decent) clothes in a size 4 (extra small).

I also found some at JC Pennies and got the cutest dress at Kohl's. If you're willing to hunt checking out consignment stores can also be great--they usually only accept things in really good to perfect condition. Thrift stores take everything, but since maternity is only worn for such a short time, it might not be that bad.

Congratulations!!! Motherhood Maternity has some nice stuff- I got a lot from Sear's because they would have sales and I am a big fan of sales- especially for stuff used in the short term- although being pregnant sure doesn't feel like the short term :rotfl: !!!!!!!

In my opinion: The Gap. The quality is great - and they fit well, too. Just buy your regular size. It is a little pricey but it's definitely worth it - I wore them thru both my pregnancies and they are still in great conditions.

I am not fond of Motherhood - I feel that their quality isn't so great - especially for tops.

I also like Target's clothes but more for activewear & nursing bras. My nursing bras from Target lasted years - and they're about $12. The one I got from Motherhood lasted barely a year - $30.

I would have fun looking around - Maternity clothes are definitely fun!

I love Liz Lange at Target. Also, their own brand is good too--I think it's called In Due Time. I'm definitely a bargain hunter for maternity, allows me more $$ for cute Gymboree kids' clothes! :cool1:

Congrats!!!
I was pregnant at 40s & found it difficult finding "mature" maternity clothes. Sears was my buddy for that pregnancy. I don't know if that's any help to you. I found alot of the "specialty" shops were geared for the youthful moms to be.

Check out Lands End overstocks - there are sometimes a lot of maternity clothes on there! And you can't beat the quality. Sears, JCPenney and Kohl's are hit or miss but at least have sales and a decent return policy.

I don't like Motherhood as their quality is really subpar and their return policy is even worse (at least, it was 3 years ago - something like 7 days, exchange only, and item must still have tags on).

Also check children's resale shops and other thrift stores. I've found some fantastic maternity deals at stores like those in the past! eBay is always an option, too, but I like to see and feel "used" clothes before I buy them.

Good tips here.
I bought most of my basics (jeans, khaki pants, a couple of skirts) from the JCPenney catalog...I loved the fact that they offered Tall sizes. I found the Motherhood pants would shrink up so bad in the wash that they would practically be capri-length after a couple washings! All the JCPenney pants lasted me through 2 pregnancies and were handed down to my sister who wore them through her pregnancy so the quality was great for the price!

Motherhood was good for a few T-shirts, and for when I needed a formal dress at 7 months pg (ugh!). They had some nice formals on the 75% off rack.

I also got a lot of stuff at consignment stores. The selection varied from store to store--some stores carried only super nice, new clothes but a few stores had racks and racks of faded sailor shirts with huge perky bows, and giant tentlike black jumpers!

I love Pea in a Pod but couldn't bear to spend that kind of money!

Happy pregnancy.

I shopped mostly at Motherhood but also Mimi. Mimi is little more expensive but I'm short and their pants were the only ones that fit me so I didn't have to wear boots. I found a few pair on sale for $25-30. I did splurge on a shirt that was $80 there but I wore it a lot!
Congratulations, savor every moment! :wizard:

Thanks everyone! Never thought I would be pregnant after 9 years of marriage and trying. I told DH I will NOT look terrible while I am pregnant and I'm going to try to look hip and cute. I am quitting work in a month so I don't need tons of career things. I am going to try all of the suggestions. :flower:

That was my rule, too!

I hated wearing "tent" clothes!

Got more hip with each pregnancy--next time, I'm going all out for cute and hip!

I did have to try everything on--I tried to get non-paneled bottoms when I could as my first pregnancy...I bought 1 pair of pants....and darned if where the panel seam met the pant--was perfectly aligned with my bladder. They were my "Potty pants" b/c everytime I wore those things--I had to go to the bathroom instantly. Got rid of those real quick!

I was pregnant with my 2nd child when I was 37. I found most of my maternity clothing at Motherhood Maternity and Sears. Once I tried to order online, but when I received it, it didn't fit right. I liked the pants and shorts with the adjustable waistbands. Could wear them the whole pregnancy. Also, I didn't think I'd like the pants that went under the belly, but they turned out to be the most comfortable in the end.

First of all, congratulations!

The Garnet Hill catalog has some great maternity clothes. They are a bit pricey, but really comfortable (nice, soft cotton) and long lasting. The items I got from there have endured my 2 pregnancies and 2 of my friends borrowed the stuff as well. It's still in great condition.

I did not like Motherhood for anything but T-shirts. The quality is not very good.

Gap and Old Navy didn't have maternity clothes when I was pregnant, but I bet they'd be good.

After I posted, I forgot to mention that Marshall's now has a small maternity section, and I've been told that they are quite a bargain (good brands at good prices)! Ours is hidden in the children's section, though they did move a few racks towards the entrance to attract some attention.

Motherhood, Target, Old Navy & Gap. If I was going to splurge on a nice outfit for the holidays or a special event I would do Mimi Maternity. Good luck with your pregnancy & enjoy it. The time goes by so fast!!!! :daisy:
