where to find reasonable priced scarf for cancer patient

I am hoping someone here can direct me in the right direction. My DN 21 was recently diagnosised w/Hodgkin's Lymphoma stage 2a. It has been found in her arm, neck and chest. She is going to be starting chemo on Thursday for approx 6-8months. She also has a spot on her lung but at this time they are unsure if it is cancerous. I would like to buy/make her some scarves for when she starts to lose her hair. I am a very good at sewing. Can anyone direct me to a good, reliable online site and/or to directions on how to make them myself? She is taking this all very well- being informed which is important. She is hoping to finish her Senior year of college in the fall but at this moment it is unsure if she will be able to go back right now.

Another ?== What is the best way to explain her condition to my DC?? They are 10,8,6 and 2. I am not worried about the ds2. More worried about the other ones. We recently lost DMIL in March to a heart attack so it is a recent topic to us. They have watched shows like EHM where the parents where sick w/ cancer - esp the one w/ the father that passed 3 days after the house was done. Any helpful words?? I know I plan on being upfront as possible on her illness - the doctors are trying to make her better w/ medicine etc. We are expecting DN on Saturday for DC joint birthday party and I am not sure what to expect just days after her 1st chemo treatment. Any good books you can recommend??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My heart is so sad. I know that she has a good prognosis but I am still very sad.

Hugs and prayers for your dear niece. Sorry, I cant help as I only had radiation. But I think you could post this on the Community board as a regular post or on the GTAGWTA Breast Cancer Survivors thread on the community board. There are a lot of ladies there with a wealth of info and one right now has lymphoma too.

Your DN will be tired and might not be able to make the party. Keep in mind that post chemo treatments, the patient has a weakened immune system. It might not be good to be in crowds and if the kids have any form of sniffle, you don't want your niece getting it.

Be upfront. Tell the kids that DN is sick and it's the kind of sick where she won't be able to see them often, but phone calls, letters, and little gifts of love (are you crafty?) can help cheer her up. Send pictures. My nephews are keeping me informed of their world and believe me, it's far better than hearing my latest blood test results when you really want to hear something else.

When her hair starts to fall out, keep in mind that it's the worst part of the whole thing. With me, I ran my fingers through my hair in it came out in a clump. I couldn't take the whole having it fall out so I had it shaved off. For me, it was very freeing. If she has a favorite color, clothes she loves to wear that a scarf would look good with, make them in those colors.

Also, don't forget the american cancer society, they rock. they can send you info to help as well.

For me, I'm four chemos down, two to go. My family has been angels, picking me up when I fall, cheering me up when I need it. My sister just left today from my fourth treatment, it was "Her turn" as she put it and treated me to a pedicure, because "You always need your feet to look good."..

Personnel I used these soft hats. I had different colors and the bandana's could be varied withe the hats.

The big plus for me was that the hats were very soft so very comfy to wear.

My DD is almost the same age as your DN and she found a ton of fashionable scarfs at H & M and Target. Both stores were priced right around $5- 6 per scarf. They lasted her through treatment just fine. Although she tended to lean more towards hats. Again, Target has very reasonably priced skull caps and bucket hats in all shapes and colors.

My thoughts are with your DN

thank you everyone for the links and wishes. We saw DN today - she looked good. She was tired by the end of the party. She also ate-- said that she hasn't been hungry the last few days. It was soo nice to see her. My DC did very well. They were asking if she would be bald today but I told them it would probably take a few treatments for it to happen. I did get a book out at the library before the school closed this week called Lemonade Club== it was a very good book. I read it to DD6. DS10 and DS8 were w/in ear shot but not sure if they listened-- they probably did. DS8 said he hopes DN doesn't die. I told him that the doctors were going to do their best to help DN get better. DD6 is still asking ?'s about the hair loss. I told DD6 after everyone left that is was great to see DN-- that she can send her letters and pictures to cheer her up. DS10 came home from school w/ an unfinished art project of a flower- he asked for a trip to the art store to get the crayons to finish the picture-- I might suggest to him to think about giving it to DN when he is done- it would make her happy. My DSIS knitted a prayer shawl for her to use too.

She said that her doctor thought treatments might be only to early Sept- not sure if it is new treatment or what -- I was busy w/ party when conversation was going on -- but that way she would still be able to go to school in the fall-- only have to come home for 2 treatments.
