Where to eat for my 40th b-day?

It will be myself, DH, our four kids ages 11, 8, 5 & 5, and potentially DMIL and her DH. We are staying at BLT w/o a car.

Choices are:

Whispering Canyon - Food doesn't sound great, but the kids would probably like the atmosphere.

The Wave - Food sounds good. Is it too quiet to take kids to?

I don't want to do Calif. Grill or O'Hana.

Any other suggestions? We'll be at DHS earlier in the day (will probably eat at 50s PT for lunch) but we're thinking we'll be out of the parks for dinner.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have for me :goodvibes

WCC was gross when we dined there in Aug, no fun, no games, no antics...just lots of fatty, greasy, inedible food.

We have been to the Wave twice and loved everything about it...the food was fantastic

Are you wanting to stay in that area or go anywhere?? Do you want an extreme disney dinner or like yay disney but also not like happy happy joy joy? Here are some that I really like and enjoy and great experiences for b-days

If you have hoppers and would maybe like to go into a park:
Crystal Palace, so fun for b days had my own here a few years ago
Le Cellier is just yummy
Chef's De France-awesome food and you have remy!
Restaurant Marrakesh-great environment and food!

Resorts around the world DTD etc
Sanaa- awesome! something also different from the everyday norm
Haven't been to Kouzzina yet but it sounds awesome and everybody loves it so far
Narcoosees
Citricos
Grand Floridan Cafe-all wonderful meals and amazing resort just fun
I LOVE Kona, and recommend it the most, amazing food, amazing restaurant, so nice and accomodating have never had a b day there, but i believe they would make it special for you
Artist Point-Great food and the resort is just spectacular!
Portobello-DTD awesome food, one of the better italian places on property I believe, and I am quite picky, have heard mixed reviews...looks like it depends on what you order
Fulton's-really cool atmosphere and fun place to eat!
Many like the WPC but I would never recommend it over the WPE, i actually prefer the Express over the Cafe

I know this was alot of restaurants but hope this helps :goodvibes

For your 40th birthday I would suggest something that appeals to YOU!!! Do you like steak? If so I would go for a nice evening out with hubby to Yachtsman, Narcoosee's or Jikos. If your MIL comes leave the kids with her and go out and enjoy your B-DAY!!!

Well, I too will be hitting the big 4-0 in a few months. Given the 2 choices you have made, I would go with The Wave. WCC just wouldn't be my 1st choice for celebrating a milestone birthday. We ate there for breakfast and didn't know what to expect. Was VERY loud for early in the am. Haven't eaten at The Wave, but heard good things.:)

Ha. That's an interesting thought, but my MIL lives near WDW and we've asked her to come out for the day or dinner. I certainly wouldn't ask her to come and then have her babysit!

Do people take their kids to The Wave? Just wondering if it's kid friendly, in that we won't get nasty looks just for walking in the place with kids, or should we opt for something else?

Yeah I can see not wanting to ask her to babysit then.......:rotfl: The great thing about Disney is that all of the restaurants are pretty much kid friendly. What about the Kona Cafe? It was great food and nice. Also if your worried about your kids being loud not to worry you can hear all of the noise from the lobby so your kids will just blend in with everyone else!!!

My SIL took their 6 and 8 year old boys to the Wave and said it was no problem. I have not been to the Wave so I cannot personally comment on the food but have heard it is good. We went to Kona 2 weeks ago and LOVED it. The food was awesome and the atmosphere was definitely kid friendly. Whatever you decide, have a Happy Birthday!

I know you said no Ó'Hana but I had my 40th there (with a lovely lapu lapu) and they did a really good job of making it special. Maybe it was because I was the only birthday, or maybe a big birthday but the great singer (forget her name) came over and sang to me especially and the whole place joined in. They did lose my cake, and we still ended up being charged for it and never did a credit, but that's another story that I've put behind me. (so why did I mention it? :confused3) - anyway, great, great memory.

I would suggest Citricos @ GF.

Easy monorail access, kid-friendly without being too loud (usually), a varied menu with something for everyone and delicious birthday cocktails. ( :thumbsup2 )

Plus, exploring the resort can be fun. Maybe the mil can watch the kiddies while you and your husband take a romantic walk around the grounds, taking in the views and hopefully a little *privacy*. ;)

Thanks everyone. I went with a 5:55pm reservation at The Wave. Hopefully that will be a good time for all of us!
