Where to eat at MGM with young kids?

The only restaurant at MGM we've ever been to is 50's Prime Time. We like the food, atmosphere, and it's kid friendly. We have a three year old and a one year old... so kid friendly is VERY important!

Any other suggestions... What about Mamma Melrose?

We like hollywood and vine. Breakfast and lunch are character meals but dinner is not. All meals are buffet. Dinner is a choice for a fantasmic package. We found the food hot and delicious. There are a few more "simple choices" than some of the buffets. There was also a good children's buffet that had most of the normal kid choices and they had a great desert bar.

we loved the 50's cafe. for counter service you have to eat at pizza planet. for another sit down id say try the sci-fi diner. skip the brown derby.

As far as Mama Melrose's go, we find that restaurant just okay. The food is good, but it's no better than the Italian food at home, and there isn't really anything spectacular about the restaurant itself. It won't be as "fun" for your kids as Prime Time, but they will probably like the pizza. IMHO, Mama Melrose's is a great restaurant for people wanting to do the Fantasmic package who don't want to go to a buffet or anything as fancy as the Brown Derby, but otherwise, unless you just love Italian food, it's nothing spectacular.

The kids might like to eat in the cars at Sci-Fi and watch the old movies.

Sci-Fi sounds great! The only problem is that I heard they show clips from horror movies... is that true?? As I said before my kids are one and three, so I don't want to scare them.

I was worried about that too, but the folks here said that the film is so old and fakey that it's not scary at all. I don't know, my DGD7 doesn't like aliens AT ALL. She's even afraid of ET!LOL We can't even watch Entertainment Tonight while she's in the room because they say ET alot!

The film clips aren't scary at all - they're just really old corny sci-fi clips. They would be considered more comedic than frightening.

Our older kids loved Sci-Fi...or 3 and 2 year olds slept through the whole meal. It was a nice dark place to rest.

The food was unremarkable, but it was a neat experience.

We ate at the Brown Derby with our 3yo last year and we all loved it! They have a very typical kids menu. It was after a very trying day at AK and we really needed some down time. Everyone must have been heading to Fantasmic because there weren't many people there. We had a very relaxing dinner and our son was a angel. Sometimes kids , too, need a break from all the "excitement".

Our vote is Hollywood & Vine. They get to see the standard characters dressed up in their Hollywood outfits, and they will love the ice cream sundae bar. Lots of toppings! Diana

My vote is for Sci-Fi. We loved it. The atmosphere was awesome. We really felt like we were at a drive-in. The food was fine (burgers and crinkle-cut fries) and the movie clips were funny. Our kids were 5 and 7 at the time, and they thought it was funny and cool. There's really nothing scary about it. And hey, where can a person get crinkle-cut fries anymore?? It just doesn't happen!

Mama Melrose is good and it's fast. The only other restaurant that we care for at MGM is the Brown Derby. It is very good, but the service is very leisurely. Fits our family fine, but might not work well for you depending on your little ones.

Last time we were at MGM--a few yrs back--we ate at Toy Story Pizza Planet. My oldest boys were 7 and 10 and they saw Buzz, Woody and the Green Army men. I hear now that you can see them at Al's Toy Barn. But the boys had a great time and had their favorite food--pizza, lol.
