We are going to be a large party, possibly 5 - 7 adults and either 2 or 3 kids age 6.

We are contemplating a TS meal midday in Hollywood Studios. In glancing through the various restaurants, none are popping out as all that appealing to me.

I've heard horrible things about Hollywood & Vine.
50's cafe menu doesn't impress me.
Sci-fi dine in seems like the most fun, but not conducive to large parties or conversation.
Brown Derby sounds formal and pricey.

Can you tell I'm a picky eater? :rotfl:

Any ideas for us? Should we just stick with counter service. Do I go back to my old favorite - Catalina Eddie's.

You said it right. what I am going to do this trip is take the boat to epcot for supper then go back to HS that way I know I can get something I enjoy without breaking the bank:banana:

I chose to for-go the park hopping option this time in hope to save a few $ (and help offset the increase airfare) and because we only hopped once last time. So... leaving the park is not really an option because we can't hop and also I'm not sure I want to spend that much time on eating when CS will do.

Well we ate at the Brown Derby in March and the food was okay.. but it was a little too.. i guess formal is the word? (Although you dressed casual) This trip we are eating at SciFi.. soo i hope its good.. :wizard:

Certainly worth considering. Do you eat there regularly? How's the food?

Thanks!

We did on our last trip and really liked it. I have another ADR there for our upcoming trip as well.

How about going to one of the Epcot resort's for food?

What about Spoodles or Flying Fish? Beaches and Cream?

Or there is the Captains Grille at the YC or Beaches and Cream (that is hard to get in to though and no ADR option)

This may not be an option for you, leaving the park, but I will say that I dined at SciFi and like you said not conducive to talking AT ALL....Mama Melrose, we liked.

I am going to do that instead of hoping to epcot then back, see just by reading these boards we can get all kinds of ideas:)

We did Spoodles at the Boardwalk and really enjoyed it. Just a boat ride or walk away. Great break and the Boardwalk is beautiful.

You can leave and re-enter the same park without hoppers, so, if interested... that opens up all the restaurants on the boardwalk and at the Epcot area resort restaurants... Cape May, Spoodles, etc. They are just a beautiful boat ride away, and it offers a nice break from the park.

I have thought about trying Mama Melrose too, but it always has iffy reviews (as does everything at DHS). We have eaten at 50's and the food was not out of this world, but we did have a lot of family fun. (and that was what we were looking for) We tried the pot roast and the fried chicken and although I've had better they were good. My dd's really wanted to try Sci Fi this year for the atmosphere. We aren't expecting out of this world, we are just wanting to have fun on our vacation. Good luck on whatever you choose!

Thanks all for your suggestions above. This is good to know and I had not considered leaving and taking the boat. It just doesn't occur to me to do that as I've only rode the boat from MGM to Epcot once.

Hmmm... now to figure out if they take ADR's and which one we might like to try.

Mama Melrose also is an option as well. Their menu has a few things that sounded good.
