My family of 6 is staying at BWV and trying to decide where to book dinner for our first night. My husband and I love Beaches & Cream but not sure that is what I want for the 6 of us. Also we are all driving and meeting at Disney so not sure how tired we will be that first night.

Suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated.

Lots of options in the area.
There are multiple signature restaurants.
While not fancy, Big River Grill does bar and grill well and if the weather is nice , you can sit outside by the lake. Its rarely crowded.

I've read great things about Ale & Compass at Yacht Club. So much so that we plan to eat there this trip.
And it's walking distance (or boat ride).

Will you have park tickets for your arrival day? You can always book an Epcot restaurant.

I would go to Trattoria al Forno. The food is good and it's right on the Boardwalk. Alternatively, you could go to the Swan and go to Il Mulino (even better Italian than Trattoria, IMHO) which is also very close to BWV. You can book Il Mulino through opentable.

I second this! It is exactly what my response was going to be.

If you like Beaches & Cream, you can go to the Fountain in the Dolphin. It's similar, but no reservations required. Download the Swan/Dolphin app and you can look at the restaurant menus.

If you're all driving and meeting up at Disney, you might like the flexibility of not being tied to a reservation.

Ale & Compass or Trattoria al Forno. We like the food at both, and we usually don’t want to do a signature restaurant on our arrival day. With the two-hour ADR cancellation option now in place, it makes it easier to bale out if you see that you won’t want to do a sit down dinner that night. Unfortunately, the Food to Go stand on the BW is now closed (permanently), so the only really close places to get something quick on the BW are the pizza window and the deli. We’ve also done take out from Big River, usually one of their salads. Enough food for two regular appetites or possibly three smaller appetites.

We just got back from Beach Club and ordered to go from Ale & Compass. They were very accommodating with my wife’s food allergy. We sat at a table by the pool and it was beautiful. They food was quite good and reasonable so we went back again and sat in the restaurant and again very good

Options within walking distance in that area include:

  • Flyin Fish
  • Big River Grille & Brewing
  • Trattoria al Forno
  • Cape May Cafe
  • Yachtsman Steakhouse
  • Beaches and Cream
  • Ale & Compass
  • Todd English's bluezoo
  • Shula's Steak House
  • Il Mulino
Really depends on your dining preferences. Our family enjoys Flyin Fish (expensive), Ale & Compass (middle), and Beaches (cheapest) the most from this list.

Big River Grille would be my choice. Our last trip, we were a group of 15, all staying at BWV, and Big River Grille was the perfect meeting point for dinner. It is in the same building as BWV, so super convenient when you “need” to go out for dinner but tired from travel and it’s pretty laid back with a decent selection of food.

Il Mulino at the Swan is my favorite restaurant in that area - best Italian in Disney IMO. I also really like Ale and Compass, but prefer breakfast over dinner.

We try to keep the first night casual as everyone is tired. Sounds like that will be the case with your family as well?

If so, Beaches and Cream really is a good choice. The Fountain over at the Dolphin also fits the bill. ESPN used to also be a great casual choice, but of course that choice is gone.

If you want something else and don't mind a buffet, you could book Cape May Cafe. It's a sit-down, but since its a buffet it's still very casual. If going into the parks is an option, you could got to Epcot through the International Gateway and then of course you have many casual choices.

Trattoria right on the boardwalk has turned into in of our favorites. Consistently very good.

The first night at BW, we opted to find food on the BW - I think it was hot dogs/fries and corn dogs. We bought a 2-liter bottle of soda from the marketplace (WDW's one for BW) and took our food upstairs to our room to relax.

People have reported that the Boardwalk To Go kiosk is not open. My guess is that's where you got the hot dogs/fries and corn dogs.

Yes, definitely closed, all signage removed from the building, and no indication of any planned replacement. The similar BW kiosk that did funnel cakes is also shuttered with signage removed and no indication of any future plans. Only Joe’s Marvelous Margaritas is still in operation at this time. Remaining choices for quick serve along the BW include the BW Deli, the BW Pizza Window, and the ice cream shop. We have done carry out from Big River Grill to take food back to the room (order at the bar).

Another vote for Big River Grille. Large menu, inexpensive, and ice cold a/c. Perfect for tired from traveling, just got there days.
