Hello. this is my first post so I hope Im in the right place. I am planning my disney trip for September and need some ideas for a good place [but not too expensive] to eat dinner early around 5.30pm after a day at AK. We are 3 adults and 1 child of 2. We will have a car but want something close to AK thats easy to find/get to. Boma's keeps getting mentioned but Ive seen the menu and am not sure its to our taste. Any suggestions appeciated Thanks:confused3

The first time we ate at Boma my daughter was 2 and she loved the food. Even my picky husband liked the carved meats and some of the salads. It is not as exotic as the menu makes it sound. The zebra dome desserts are too die for! This September will be our third time eating there!

If that is not your cup of tea, try the Rainforest Cafe that is right outside of Animal Kingdom. The prices seem high, but you can easily split a meal between two people with the large portion sizes. If you can get a Rainforest Cafe Safari Club card before you go you will either save 10% off your entire meal or get a free appetizer. We get the coconut chicken tenders and feed them to my daughter for her meal and then my husband and I split a meal.

Good luck with your decision! :wizard:

I second Boma at AKL - you can visit the public viewing after either before or after dinner, too!

Are you staying onsite? If so, and you were to use Disney Transportation, you could go to one of the monorail resorts to eat, and then monorail back to the buses for your resort at MK.

We're going to take the bus from AK to the Contemporary to eat at Chef Mickey's, then monorail to the bus for Pop Century.

This might not work for everyone, but it was the best we could come up with for our group! :)

I would go with your gut instinct and not do Boma, It's not for everyone. We can say we did it but won't go back. I'd either have a CS there at AK or go to Chef Mickey's which isn't close like you wanted but thats just what we are planning. Whatever you decide hope you enjoy.

If you don't like Boma's or the price of it, you can always do Jiko's which is a little cheaper but not much. http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningdetail.cfm?Restaurant.ID=229

If you want inexpensive, then you can do Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge. http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningdetail.cfm?Restaurant.ID=17 It's not cheap, but it's one of the lower-priced restaurants in the area without having to go into a park. Plus the food is good and 2 adults can share 1 plate cuz they're so big.

If you're staying on property, just take one of the buses to TTC and then go to Wilderness Lodge. If you aren't staying on property, then be sure to park at Epcot since it's the park that stays open the longest.

Boma!!! Definitely Boma. It's kind of on the expensive side, but it's the best buffet at Disney, hands down. Not only do they have the typical buffet foods (chicken fingers, mac and cheese, pizza, etc) but they also have the absolute best African foods - soups and stews, salads, pot roast, steak, different meats, etc. It was delicious and there really is something for everyone!

And about Jiko, it's a lot more expensive than Boma. The Boma buffet has everything included - drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts. The Jiko entrees are more expensive than the entire Boma buffet!

Boma is much more economical than Jiko unless you plan to order only appy's or a cheaper entree at Jiko and nothing else.

Not everyone likes Boma but for the most part it is a very popular buffet (as you have read already) and there ARE no restaurants that please every palate anyhow. Boma has such a wide variety of foods both "exotic" and standard children's type food, there is bound to be something each person will be satisfied with. Don't let the menu items scare you away.
