Where to donate small grand piano

HI

I have a black parlor grand piano in decent condition that I want to donate somewhere. I do not want to go through the hassle of trying to sell it. Does anyone have any suggestions as how to get rid of it with the least amount of trouble?

I'd check out the local churches in the area- they're always in the most need of any donations either for the church itself or families in the community.

I would think an assisted living home or a private school would love a piano. I believe it would have a huge impact for seniors . A senior center would also be another great place.

The first places that come to my mind are a church or a school...perhaps a public youth or children's center in the area. I'm sure any of them would be happy to be given the gift of music!

We have lots of these places around here, and let me just say many are not hurting for money and could buy thier own piano. BUT we also have a veterans home that I bet would LOVE it. They have little to no funds to buy a piano, but I bet they have a lot of piano players!

Churches are all about music and most would jump at the chance to get one donated. Plus they probably have a few strong men and a truck to come and get it.

We tried to donate a piano last year and never found a taker. A lot of places were interested but wanted it delivered and for us to foot the bill for the movers.

When we had our other piano tuned, my husband asked the tuner to loosen the piano wires on the piano we were no longer using. My husband took it apart and ended up using the wood for other projects.

Please give it to a school. I am an elementary music teacher, and until we had a piano donated a month or so ago (though very old, scratched, and out of tune), we only had 1 broken piano. I'm sure that a school would appreciate. In our district, our music supervisor generally send out e-mails about equipment, so maybe contact a local school board.

Lots of people post them for free on our Craigslist. I get the feeling that they can be hard to get rid of because of the moving issue.

Besides moving them, the other reason churches, etc. don't always jump at piano donations is that they then need to budget funds to tune them. It's not that we don't appreciate them, but- our church, at least- only has a certain amount they can put toward tuning the several pianos we already have. THe ones we can't afford to tune sit there and become unusable over time.

We are offered free pianos all the time, but unfortunately can't take most of them. We appreciate the offers, though.

There was just an ad in my paper this week that a small catholic school needed a piano. Since they're really in need of one, they're willing to pick it up. I would check with any small school first.

Lots of people post them for free on our Craigslist. I get the feeling that they can be hard to get rid of because of the moving issue.

That's why we got our baby grand. DH was at a co-worker's house to give them some advice about remodeling. Their house came with the piano and they just told him if he could find a way to get it out of the house he could have it.

Try donating it to a high school maybe? Or any school actually! Our music departments pianos are awful, and my school probably isn't the only school with broken and out of tune pianos.

Check your local Craigslist. There are always free pianos on ours.
