Where to do New Years Countdown in Disneyland?

I'm thinking about going to Disneyland for Dec 31 and was wondering where the best place to do the countdown is (not considering Small World):
  • In front of the castle
  • Rivers of America
  • California Adventure
If I do in front of the castle, I'd like to see it from the 2nd or 3rd row. Can I get that type of spot around 5:45 or do I need to start saving a spot around 1PM right after the march down Main Street?

If I do Rivers of America, are all the areas usually standing or do they force the front section to sit for the countdown like Fantasmic usually is? Ex. If I do the Hungry Bear section, will I be allowed to stand up next to the rail for the countdown?

If I do California Adventure, I'd like to see it from the top of the stairs at the front of that circle in the middle or immediately behind the plants to the right of that with nobody in front of me. I assume I would need to watch the 9:45 World of Color from that area and wait?

People who have seen the countdown from the above spots, which do you prefer or what is it like? Are there usually press/media blocking any of the above sections that I need to be aware of? Do they do the 9PM countdown at all of those three spots and are they the same as the midnight countdown?
