Where to buy dance shoes? How do they fit?

My dd (also a soccer girl) wanted to go to dance camp this summer....so we needed jazz shoes and fast. I ordered these:

We went through three different pairs before finding the right size. She wears a size 4/5 youth street shoe and ended up with an 8.5 dance shoe. Zappos made it easy though...we just kept ordering and returning until we found the right size--no hassle!

As a dance studio owner, I agree with many of the posters, ask the studio owner before you do anything! It is best if you have them fit at a dance store. The quality and fit of your daughter's shoes can make a big impact on her enjoyment of the class and ability to perform the steps correctly. Remember she will be moving and jumping in these shoes for 45min to and hour depending on length of the class, a runner would not put on cheap, poorly made shoes to run for this length of time and not expect foot issues! Quality of shoes does count even for a beginner! Good luck to your daughter and I hope she loves her class!

For those that are buying, inexpensive ballet shoes from places like Payless or WalMart. Please feel them and then answer this question? How do you expect your child to point his/her foot and allow the teacher to see your child's arch in a shoe that feels like it has a piece of cardboard on the bottom? I have found that these inflexible shoes dramatically slow down the progress of even beginners!
