Where to buy cheap paperbacks

Ok - thanks to the After Twilight Thread my book habit has spun out of control. I usually go to Amazon.com but with shipping I might as well go to the bookstore.

If you know of any great websites where I can buy cheap paperbacks I would appreciate it!

Not to state the obvious, but do you have any used bookstores on your area? I ask because I never even knew we had any until I searched (online, of course. Now I've found a little corner of heaven! I participate in their trade in program and have like $100 worth of credit, lol!

I'd recommend that. Because you're right, Amazon is great til you have to pay shipping.

Look around in your area also. I know that we have one huge place that deals with strictly used books. We also have some smaller places as well. They generally sell paperbacks from a quarter to a buck. This way you can spend an hour or more there and walk out with an enormous amount and still spend less then $20. Plus, you don't have to pay shipping and handling, which can really jack the price up and make a good deal not so good.

You can always check out ebay. Often times you will find lots of books going for cheap, but you may not be interested in all the books in the lot, so, it can be hit or miss. Not sure of other websites though, all though half.com also does used books, I have only used them for books I couldn't find elsewhere.

My local library has a used book sale once a month. The books are all donated. At then end of the evening you can buy a grocery sack of books for $3. It is great! I have also expanded the types of books that I usually choose to read. I am enjoying new genres that I never would have tried before if i were not trying to fill my bag. My library does a nice job of organizing the books...they are all arranged alphabetically.

I LOVE this website! You trade paperbacks. You list all the books you are willing to trade, and when someone requests one you pay to mail it to them (usually averages under $3.00). Then you get a credit for that book to use to order one you want. Or you can just buy credits for $3.45/each (although many people on their forum sell them for as little as $2.50). The books have to be in good condition so you don't have to worry about them falling apart when you get them. They have lots of out of print books, too.

It's great!! I've been a member for a few months now. I use it for books that my library doesn't carry.

I always place a big order when barnes and noble have their free shipping promotion. I believe it's still going on now. I think they have the best prices too. Also, Bj's or Sam's Club, and Costco have great prices on paper backs.

Have you checked you library? Mine sells them for 50 cents each. They probably have a few thousand for sale at any given point.

I've also sometimes had good luck with church thrift shops, Goodwill and the Salvation Army. And I try to really stock up during yard sale season.
