Booked a surprise trip to WDW for May. I want to surprise the kids at Christmas as this being one of their gifts. I want to buy a really cute piece of luggage and put things like new swimsuit/trunks, Disney tshirt, flip flops etc. inside with a note from Mickey inviting us on our upcoming trip. So I would love to find someplace to get really cute childrens/teen luggage. DS is 6 and DD 14 and I'm looking for something reasonably priced. TIA

I doubt a 14 year old wants "cute" luggage. I would focus on putting the money into a piece of luggage that they can carry for years to come when whatever character they are into today is long discarded. 14 is only a few years from college and will need a suitcase that will travel back and forth from campus frequently. Look for a piece that has good wheels that roll smoothly and a solid ballistic nylon. If you want it to be airplane carry on approved look for a piece that is 22" or smaller.

I agree that you may want to get something that is more durable. I highly recommend the luggage from L.L. Bean as there are lots of bright colors and the monogramming is very nice for an extra $5.

We recently got DS a rolling duffel bag from One Step Ahead which seems very well made. It is sold separately or if you prefer a suitcase-and-backpack combo is also available. It was reasonable and is very attractive.

We saw the cutest Disney hard cases at TJ Maxx! They were so cute and my 13 year old liked the more classic themed ones.

they were these

Oh and wanted to say that Vera is her other bag of choice.

Marshall's....cheap, name brand and they have regular suitcases in bright colors (orange, purple, pink etc...girly).

If you go to Vera Bradley outlet you could get her a vera duffel for around 45$ I think and if there is not one near you can call the outlet and they will ship you anything that you can fit in this huge box for 8$ shipping.

Not cheap, but my DD got the LL Bean rolling duffel for her 3rd birthday from my parents in Aloha Pink and she loves it! They just discontinued the color so I also bought her the small duffel carry-on before they ran out. I have it in purple and shows no dirt after a few years. I love that is comes in a bunch of colors and everyone can have a different one.

Thier toiletry bags are also awesome! You could also wrap those with some travel sunscreen, disney bandaids, etc...

Dillards had some really great luggage 50% off. If you wait until their final Summer clearance (maybe around Labor Day), they usually do an additional 50% off clearance prices. Right now they have several fun colors that my DD14 loved but it wasn't anything that wouldn't still be good for an adult- I wanted it too. If she hadn't gotten new luggage last year, I'd be really tempted.

Target.com has a 3 pc embark set in red for $20. You could iron on a black mickey head to make it disney. And use fabric paint to personalize it. Or add a disney luggage tag.

I love this piece! I'll have to check my TJ Maxx. Do you happen to remember how much it was?

It was about a month ago - I'm thinking it was high 30's because I was tempted to buy it just because (and I'm cheap) so it wasn't in the 20's because I would have bought it for that price. :rotfl2:

I agree with Marshall's or TJMaxx. I was in Marshall's the other day and saw the cutest Nemo wheeled luggage (semi-hardside). I would have bought it in a second if my daughter wasn't 23 years old... :rotfl2:

Yup, Marshalls. I recently bought two lightweight suitcases, black with hot pink polka dots and bows... one for DD and one for me!

Since you're only coming in from Kentucky you afford to travel light and be cute. My wife's family came over from England and before they left SIL's dad bought the kids "cute" little cases. What a terrible idea that turned out to be. You only get 1 bag per person and 50 pounds per bag. They couldn't get most of their souvenirs back because the 2 main bags were full and the cute littles ones barely held anything. They should have dumped the little bags and bought regular cases but then Dad would have been slighted so we either have to mail the stuff at great expense or wait until the next time my wife goes over to England and hand deliver them.

My dds have those two (but in blue and orange) and they are great. At 8 and 10 I can fit over a weeks worth of clothes in them.

I got luggage for DD's 8th grade trip to DC at Marshalls, it was $50 and had zebra stripes on it (It won't last, I know). She has 3 other small suitcases in the attic, one with Minnie and Mickey (no way at 14!) a pink one (screams little girl) and a really small wheeled case which held next to nothing! Themed luggage may be cute, but won't last for many years. Also if you're flying you may want to put everything in a large suitcase and not worry about each person having their own. When DD was really young we got her a lightweight Minnie backpack to carry her stuff on the plane and she used it for 6 or 7 WDW trips before outgrowing it.
A Vera Duffle may be fine for the older one and more practical than something she may not use a lot. We've used the small and large duffle a lot (the large one is really large!).
