Where should we NOT eat at DLR

I was looking at some of the menus. Some that we have not been to look good. Which places should we stay away from?

Thanks

The only place I refuse to eat is Village Haus in fantasyland. It may be better now, but I'm not going to spend my money to find out! I've had burgers from there before- dry and cold- ick! Other then that the food has always been ok.

Edit to add- I just read a review today for Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante that wasnt great. Food a bit bland and the new menu doesn't have many options.

I'll have to agree that the Village Haus has been hit and miss as far as food quality is concerned.

On the other hand my only visit to Rancho del Zolcalo was a pleasant one.

A lot of the stands and walk up window will provide a vareity of results based on the crowds that day, the attentiveness of the crews and sometimes just good or bad luck.

Rather than asking what to avoid, ask what's good and you'll get a lot of responses. If some place isn't getting mentioned, skip it.

For good things, I read so many positive comments about the Bengal BarBQ, I feel the need to try it before it's gone. Also the Blue Bayou Monte Cristo and Rocket Redds Pizza & Salads get lots of good reviews. For a snack the Dole Whip stands above the rest.

Since we've been before and have a few we really like, we were thinking of trying some of the others. Asking what to avoid is eactly what I am looking for. If it's not on the avoid list, we may try it on our May trip. Thanks!!

I agree with avoiding Village Haus. I looked at Zocalo's new menu--doesn't thrill me, esp since the fish tacos are gone. Personally I'm not a big fan of Hungry Bear either (except for the bathrooms there--never crowded and the water coming out of the faucets is warm).

Avoid? LOL. When you are hungry at Disneyland, you will eat just about anything. Everyone has a personal preference of what they don't want to eat. Therefore, it is not the food I would worry about as much as finding a place to eat it. If it is not a crowded day, you don't have to worry about any of this. However the following information is for days where there are so many people, all you want to do is sit and have a meal. If you aren't familiar with how seating works at Disneyland, I would avoid Riverbelle (I remember sharing a table once when I was by myself with my two small children) and the restaurant you get the mint juleps (see, I never eat there because of this problem). If you have enough members of your party that you can split it, half finds a seat while the other gets the food, it's okay. Otherwise you will get your food and not be able to find a seat! The same goes for Bengal Barbeque but that food is easy to eat on the go. Other places like this are Hungry Bear, Village Haus, Club Buzz (or whatever that place is called) and the food court at Toontown but typically there are enough places you can find somewhere to sit. Pretty much everywhere else is better regulated where you have to enter one area to get your food before going to the other area to find a seat or it is table service.

Thanks for your reply :goodvibes

Your must have a very easy family when it come to food. Ours is picky - they like good "real" food. Forget the hot dogs, etc. on the run just to fillup the stomach - they like pasta, veggies, etc. They eat almost everything except fast food

I know everyone has person preferrences but there are places that a number of people avoid because the food is not that good.

thanks again!

RADOPT, I actually start feeling ill if we eat the fast stuff more than once every ohter day while we're there.... system just isn't used to it! So we're pretty picky about the food also! I would avoid Village Haus - but really - the other places aren't bad. CA ADV seems to have more fresh food, though. In DL your choices are very limited!

We avoid Village Haus and Hungry Bear. VH because of a bad experience and HB just because there are so many great choices elsewhere, I don't really want to eat bugers and fries. I've had the wraps at Club Buzz and wasn't impressed, but it wasn't so bad that I would say avoid it.

In DCA we avoid Pizza Omm Mow Mow and Lucky Fortune Cookery (when it's even open).

Got2Travel: Is the Lucky Fortune Cookie ever open? I've had 25+ trips in the last 2 years and it's never been open yet. Unless they only open it on Deluxe AP days, I doubt I would have missed it as DS loves tortillas and we stop by nearly every trip.

As for what to skip, The Burger Invasion is the usual McDonald's, so unless you're interested in the Happy Meal Toy (which is usually very nice) I'd try something different.

In DCA, the Pizza Oom Mow... whatever.... restaurant had a really unpleasant smell... :confused3
I cannot recommend Brennan's in DTD--disappointed with food and service.
Have a great trip! :sunny:

Last week I had the worst hamburger I've ever had in my life at Club Buzz in Tomorrowland. Cold, dry, and tasteless. But since it was almost 2:00 in the afternoon and I was starving, I ate most of it anyway. Proof that what I always tell my kids is true; if you're really hungry you'll eat anything!

The few times I ate at HB, I liked it (though these were all before the Country Bears were closed to make room for Winnie the Pooh). Fast food yes, the typical Disneyland style, but it was at least hot and as fresh as fast food can be. I mostly enjoyed the fact that it was a nice quite spot right above the River where you could see the Mark Twain go by and get a few minutes away from the crowds.

With all the bad reviews of the Village Haus, I'm surprised that Disneyland hasn't changed the menu as the Magic Kingdom did last year. It went from a place I never set foot in to a real viable counter service lunch option. They added these three items:

Grilled Turkey and Bacon Panini - smoked turkey, bacon, roasted red peppers, tomato basil on muli-grain bread, served with chips $7.19

Italian Sub Sandwich - capicola, ham, salami, Mortadlla, Provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, and red onions on a Tuscan roll $6.99

Antipasto Salad - fresh mixed greens, assorted Italian meats, olives, marinated mixed vegetables, and Parmesan cheese tossed in Italian dressing $6.49; Served without meat $4.69

(cut and pasted from wdwig.com)

and deleted the dry cold burgers.

My family does not do "fast food either", we prefer a more healthy "real food" experience. Our favorites include the French Market which is a buffiteria but has some nice options. River belle Terrace whick has both good breakfasts and lunches. The bakery over at DCA (name?) has some nice soup served in bread options. When we need to get more fast food options we look for a chicken breast type sandwich, and drink milk as the beverage, and get carrotts as the side.

My sister & I had a very mediorcre and over-priced meal at Rancho del Zocalo about 2 weeks ago. The patio setting is nice, but the food left us cold.

Us too. It was right around 6:30 and during the dinner crowds so I don't know why it'd be so awful for us. It was so dry we almost couldn't eat them.

I also think the food at Rancho de Zocalo is mediocre at best. If you hit lunch or dinner crowds the wait to get your food can be very long. And then when you do it's cold.
