Where should I use my points?

Just back from a week at OKW where we purchased a seperate contract for VB. We got 150 points for the year 2000. The plan is to do VB for 5 nights every summer.

I did not anticipate VB being completely booked up the entire summer - but it is. That is the only time we can go because I already pull the kids out of school once a year for our WDW trip.

If I bank the points, I will have 300 points (not to mention all of my OKW points). I will book our summer 2002 VB trip at 11 months but it will only require 145 points (5 nights, 2 bedroom). I shouldn't complain about having too many points, but if I can't get into VB this summer, I will.

What should I do? Where should I go? I tried an exchange at about 10 places but nothing is available. Our Jan. 2002 OKW trip is already reserved - can't add any more days to that because of the kids missing school. I am on a wait list at VB but MS said it was a long shot. My only thought was WDW in the summer. However, we would go just to swim and do a water park. The other parks are way too crowded and hot for me. Does anyone ever go to WDW and NOT do the parks? Is that kind of a waste? I really don't want to bank the points but I really don't want to have 300 points next year - plus I really want another vacation! Any ideas?

We went to VB last Aug and loved it but I'm a fair skinned Irish boy and all that sunning and funning made me look like a tomato. This Aug we are going to stay at our home resort, BWV. We plan on 1 day at a water park and also plan to spend a day at Disney Quest (indoors, ac, no sun). We will be there 6 days and the other 4 will be spent under an umbrella at poolside and doing the nightlife on the BW. We will actually plan a few character breakfasts and will probably take a mid afternoon nap when the heat is at it's highest. We plan on doing this for the next few years, Feb at the parks, Aug at the hotel. I think it will be a very relaxing time and it will give us a chance to take in all the WDW extras that you miss sometimes running around the parks.
On a down note. When we were at VB, a lot of people came to stay after a few days at WDW and they all said how much hotter it was at WDW and how beautiful the ocean breeze was at VB.
I would go for the WDW trip and just take it easy. Take your mid day break indoors and enjoy the nightlife of WDW. That was our only complaint about VB... No night life at the resort.
And you were apologizing for your post being long...
If you are really in a bind and can't find anything to do with those points, I would be glad to help you out and take them off your hands.

Rent your points. You can get more for them in wdw though, so have a renter lined up at 7 months and go for it. You'll get $1500+. No use using points just to get rid of them , you might as well use the extra cash on other vacations.

If you really have your heart set on going to WDW consider the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels Reservations options i.e. Polynesian Village, Grand Floridian, Fort Wilderness Camp Ground cabin, etc. or even the Cruise line. It is certainly better than losing the points.

You might even find someone who can trade.
Have you asked to be wait listed??

You shouldn't have a problem there are plenty of options.

DVC is offering a reduced points program for Fall cruise dates on the 7 day Disney Magic- check the member's web page. I went last October on this deal & it was great! My kids have a week of half days in Nov. for conferences/professional development. Since it's not a productive school week,that's when we go- they don't miss anything. The weather is perfect then too! Animal Kingdom Lodge is opening soon, points are the same value as the Beach/Yacht Club. We booked for the opening week with points for something different!

Have you tried the new DVC - VWL since it is still being sold they might have some rooms - there is plenty to do here. The pool (wL) is a lot of fun. There is boating and bikes to rent, an arcade and don't forget the geyser. Over at FW there is a petting zoo, pony rides, horseback riding. Of course being close enough to see the MK might be a disadvantage - you will want to go the parks. This resort is beautiful.

I book a few days at one of the Concierge Collection Vacation Spots to utilize points that I
don't know what to do with. I booked the Woodstock Inn in Vermont on short notice (6 weeks). Give it some thought. Try picking a location that will be in the of season for that particular location if you are having trouble.Good Luck

I think if you have the opportunity to visit WDW during the summer & not do the parks, GO FOR IT!!! The hotels are so wonderful, and the amenities are often overlooked because you're so busy at the parks!! If you can go to the WLV's, go for it!! There is nothing better than renting surrey bikes there or renting a boat for a morning!! It's great! You'll have lots of fun!!
