We are looking to possibly rent in Orlando for one month between Thanksgiving and Xmas. Def a work from home/remote school situation with the bonus of warm weather and new activities/food to explore on weekends and evening during that month. WDW and Universal would be part of the plan as well. Want to be immersed in the area as it’s a possible retirement destination for us.

Where should I start for research? Would want a family friendly neighborhood that has a nice proximity to the highlights of the action in the orlando tourism area.
Thanks!

Well if money is no object I would stay at the Margaritaville Resort Cottages...

Funny you suggest this b/c I have another post going about this resort (but the resort, not the cottages). Haven't looked into renting, I'll take a look. But if you say money no object.......not our situation, ha. I see so much on VRBO with private pools, etc., for good rates, but just so overwhelmed with all the options and not knowing the neighborhoods/areas.

We have stayed for a month at both Windsor Hills and Reunion. Both areas were nice with lots to do.

I started with air bnb..
My issue was the snowbirds were all ready in town and my favorite spots were taken.

From your description it sounds like you would enjoy being in a house with plenty of space to spread out so that everyone could have their own work/study space. And probably a pool for that 'warm weather activity'. One note, you will want to have pool heat available.

An place that would provide a wide selection of such homes is the Four Corners area, southwest of Disney, mostly in the area east of 27, west of 429, north of I-4, and south of 192. There are a lot of vacation villas of various sizes, from 3 to 10 bedrooms, in this area. Our snowbird home is located in this area.

In a normal year it would be difficult to find a rental for December in November. The holiday weeks are usually booked well in advance. I do know from talking with friends that the area has been very quiet. This December, I don't know what will happen. In our neighborhood there were a number of families from Europe. I suspect that won't be happening this year.

Start off with VRBO, find a few homes that meet your criteria then do Google Maps satellite view and Street View drive through of the neighborhoods to see what they look like. While we bought our house during a short, intense trip when we went through a number of homes, we ended up buying the one we had picked out over the internet.
Wishing you pixiedust: with your search!

This topic intrigues me:) I know the price range must be vast, but what would a general price range be for a 3 or 4 bedroom place for a month?

I’d try a few real estate agents that help with corporate rentals. Some complexes have require rentals of at least 30 days and they may know about them. This may be less expensive than places that rent by the night.

Thank you so much for the details. This will def be a last minute decision but in the meantime, I’m going to learn as much as possible. Love the google street view idea!

I think a bit limitation on this is the fact that the max ticket we can purchase is a 7 day ticket. That's very limiting. Hm......is there something I am not aware of?

sorry for another question - on a roll with research this morning. i'm mapping out locations and windsor hills/reunion looks closer to disney than universal. can you recommend similar kinds of neighborhoods that are closer to universal? thanks!

Sorry, I am not familiar with the areas near Universal. I also believe that the Orange County does not allow short term rentals which might limit your options near Universal.

Oh, very interesting. Yes, the options drastically go down once I move the map towards Universal. Thanks!

Not that I am aware of for non-residents. You might want to pose this question to the sticky 'Tickets + how to upgrade' in the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies forum to get more input.

There are many 3 ,4 & 5 bed villas for rent as was pointed out around Hwy 192 , Hwy 27 to I-4 area

Hampton lakes , Solana , Calabay Park etc All with own Pool ( Heating Extra about $ 25 per Week )

These could be got for APPROX $ 1000 Per Week PER VILLA PLUS TAX

So a 3 bed say 6 people would work out at $ 24 PER PERSON per Night

As a Former Owner of a 5 bed villa in Hampton Lakes I should Know ( From year 2000 to 2018 )

Check out IPG Vacation Homes & look at their range

In this area, do any of the neighborhoods have sidewalks? If so, which ones?
