July 20, 2010: Part Three

As our Fast Pass time crept ever closer for Everest, I got that familiar feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach. The thought of riding that big mountain was just not sounding fun to me. While I meandered with my family towards Expedition Doom, I noticed that we had an awful lot of stuff: water bottles, my bag, Chelsea’s bag. Inspiration struck.

“I’m not going to ride. I will hold onto everyone’s stuff and go get Kali Fast Passes.”

Connor was not pleased that I was chickening out, but I appeased him through the tried and true practice of bribery. I told him if he rode Everest, I would let him pick something out in the gift shop. It worked!

I sent the braver members of my family off which I think might be against the Sherpa code of honor.

I strolled off in the opposite direction. I had a destination and a drink of my own in mind.

Not the drink I wanted.

152.jpg

There it is! The place I was headed.

153.jpg

A Frozen Chai! Yummy, yummy, yummy!

154.jpg

While I was at that end of Asia, I moved our lunch ADR at Yak and Yeti to 11:15. The heat was already wilting us. I also grabbed Kali Fast Passes for some after lunch fun.

Heading back towards the mountain.

156.jpg

It’s a relief to know that if I ever make it to Nepal, I will still be able to DIS.

157.jpg

Almost there!

158.jpg

I met back up and heard all about Connor’s ride. He was slightly upset with his sister who had made him hide his head for most of the ride. In the gift shop he chose a snow kitty to go with his Yeti, and then it was time for lunch!

168.jpg

We had a lovely view from an upstairs window. It sure doesn’t look crowded down there, does it?

160.jpg

Chelsea pointed out that all the light fixtures were different.

164.jpg

163.jpg

Both kids had cherry limeade to drink.

159.jpg

We ordered the fried green beans for an appetizer since I had read so many rave reviews on the DIS.

161.jpg

Chelsea had a bit of a problem eating hers -- she kept pulling the green bean out of the breading.

162.jpg

The portions were HUGE! We could have easily split a couple of entrees.

I had the shrimp lo mein.

166.jpg

Charles had the beef and broccoli.

165.jpg

Chelsea had the maple tamarind chicken.

167.jpg

Connor ordered the sweet and sour chicken. I am not sure how I missed taking a picture of it.

It was a lovely air-conditioned and delicious meal. We were a little shocked when a woman at the table next to us proceeded to brush her hair right there at her table. Where do people get their manners???

After lunch, I ran for Safari Fast Passes. We planned on using them in the evening when we returned.

My first glimpses of Africa!

169.jpg

170.jpg

We would be attending this later in the day!

171.jpg

Meanwhile back in Asia, Connor had discovered a woman weaving animals out of plants in this little gazebo.

How cute is this fish??? (Both of them. LOL!)

Our last ride of the morning was Kali River Rapids. We love this ride, but always get soaked. We figured if we did it last, we would be able to head back to the room and change.

The Cast Member taking the Fast Passes sprinkled some birthday Pixie Dust on Chelsea when he handed back our Fast Passes and said, “Happy Birthday!” Score! We would ride it again when we came back.

We were wringing wet at the end of Kali as usual, but had a great time. Back at the hotel we changed and rested for a bit away from the heat and the crowds! Around 4:00 we would be going back to Africa!

LOL Expedition Doom...that's a priceless name!! A smart mom you are, holding all the stuff, bribery, I wonder if Connor will ever get you back on that ride LOL!! Glad the family didn't get eaten by the Yeti!!

Hmmmmm...I would so love a frozen Chai right now!! Someone on the DIS once said they were like Christmas in a cup (was that you?) well they were right it is yummy spiced goodness and I will partake in another one next time I'm there!!!

Yak and Yeti is a wonderful meal! I'm glad you had a good time there!!!!

Can't wait for your Taste of Africa reviews!!

I am totally down with the ditching the family at the last minute on EE. I get the worst anxiety when I think about riding coasters. Of course, Ryan dislikes thrill rides more than I do so it's my job to go when the kids are interested.

How did you guys like the meal at Yak & Yeti? did the fried green beans live up to the hype? We have that planned for our upcoming trip and while I am excited about eating there I do wonder if it is really hype-worthy.

I've never seen the woven leaf animals before. Is that something new in AK? It looks totally amazing and makes such a great souvenir! What a sweet CM! Such a little thing for him to do, but it makes such a big impact. Those are my favorite kinds of treats!

I seem to remember the day that Connor told me EE was an evil ride. He seems to have gotten over that! What a guy! So glad he got a snow kitty to go with his Yeti, Baylor has yet to ride again....

I hope you enjoy your Taste of Africa as much as we did!

I had lost track of what time of day it was so I was sure that you were off in search of a Lost on Safari for your drink of choice! Maybe later!!

I am still on the fence on EE. Not sure I can do it. :sad2:

Great idea to do Kali last. I have only been on it once and got totally soaked!

Really looking forward to the Taste of Africa!

Oh that frozen Chai looks wonderful!! I will have to try one of those next trip.
Aw you did not ride EE. I love that ride but I enjoy riding everything. Although at Universal next year it might be a different story. I think I will use your method & say I will hold everything & my guys can do the rides. I don't mind any Disney ride but those big coasters that go straight down..NO!!

Expedition Doom. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: I love it!!

Ahhh, Chelsea is a girl after my own heart noticing the different light fixtures. :rotfl2:

Too funny that you bribed Connor to ride EE...and I love the new name...Expedition Doom! :rotfl2:

Wow...that frozen Chai looks delicious! I may have to get one of those next time! :goodvibes

Your meals looked huge, but fantastic! :thumbsup2

YAY for Chelsea getting pixie dusted at Kali...very cool that you would have the opportunity to ride again!

Can't wait to hear about Taste of Africa! :woohoo:

I have to catch up! The first week of school was exhausting, but I finally have time for the DIS now :)

I hope Connor had a terrific birthday!!!
Looks like everyone had a great time at the DISmeet.

I would have done the same thing to get out of riding EE:lmao:
Y&Y is so yummy!
Connor's fish is adorable.

first off...Sending Birthday wishes pixiedust: to Connor...hope he had a great one!

2nd...very cool Dismeet! :thumbsup2

There it is! The place I was headed.

153.jpg

A Frozen Chai! Yummy, yummy, yummy!

154.jpg

that is what I want too...where exactly is that place?

How cute is this fish??? (Both of them. LOL!)

172.jpg

so fun, I love finding those little bit's of extra MAGIC!

The Cast Member taking the Fast Passes sprinkled some birthday Pixie Dust on Chelsea when he handed back our Fast Passes and said, “Happy Birthday!” Score! We would ride it again when we came back.

very cool...you guys have had some great CM moments on this trip......did they say Happy Bird-day?...I remember them saying that to the twins when we were there for their b-days in '05

Both of the fish are cute.

The food at Yak and Yeti looks tasty, I will need to try it the next time we go to AK. All the pictures and talk of food reminds me it is about lunch time. Unfortunately there is nothing that looks that good in my kitchen. I guess we will have to go out to eat. I will blame the Dis. for my craving. Have a good birthday and family weekend.:goodvibes
