Hi,
Being that I've overspent my vacation budget the last few years......We decided to camp this summer.

We camped in Lake George in a tent....then went back two years ago and rented a cabin. I think we will go back there...I was also looking at the Jershey shore.

Here is a link.... http://www.lakegeorgeescape.com/main.htm
Please tell me your favorite campgrounds. :goodvibes
Thanks
Kerri

I would imagine that personal preference and style plays a huge part on selecting a campground that you like, same as choosing between the various Disney resorts. Some like really formal RV resorts like Normandy Farms in Foxboro, MA with many amenities and activities. Others like more basic sites with plenty of room, vegetation and privacy but short on features like planned activities or game rooms, etc.

We were pleasantly surprised with Flat Rock Bridge family resort in Lebanon, NH which had some great tubing on the river, a large water slide, game rooms, activities for the kids, etc. They do not take reservations for stays of less than a week until late in April. That way they can try to keep sites for week long reservations and probably helps to keep them at or near capacity.

We tend to like state parks for the spacious sites when camping over a weekend and we can be self contained. For a week, it's nice to have full hookups and most of the state parks around here do not offer that. I prefer CGs near locations so we can explore like Glen Ellis Family CG in New Hampshire's White Mountains. I like short day hikes into mountain areas with waterfalls, and Glen Ellis is also close to Conway with their tourist shops, scenic railway, great restaurants. They (Glen Ellis) also have a wide open area in the middle that is all sports fields, playground great place for little ones to burn off some steam.

Massachusetts also has two state parks right on the water which offer water and electric sites with available dump stations for around $22 per night. These CGs are more like fields with little in the way of shade trees or privacy, but the locations are great if you want an affordable vacation on the beach.

Give some idea on the type of CG you prefer and we can give you more feedback.

Thanks for the response....I will check that one out.

I am definately looking for a "resort" type campground. With a pool, store and stuff to do for the kids.
The one I linked in Lake George is awesome....I'm just looking for a new place.

We will be in a tent....but it would be nice if they rent cabins....for mom:goodvibes

I would think Flat Rock Bridge would make a great choice for a tent CG with many amenities and activities for the kids. There isn't much in the immediate vicinity of Flat Rock Bridge (not at the coast or near the mountains), but it's a nice family campground. I think they have rental trailers, not sure about cabins.

I am not sure if Normandy Farms has tent sites. Great amenities, lots of good reviews and popular with the RV groups around here.

There are also some great CGs along the coast in Maine, at places like Old Orchard Beach. They are not cheap though, and they nickel and dime you for everything (kids extra, dogs - extra. Fleas on the dog? Extra), but they are on prime real estate and if they don't make the money the places will become condos. At Old Orchard Beach there is a pier and a small amusement park, things that will someday disappear and we will all miss. Local specialty is french fries with malt vinegar - delicious! Just a short drive from there up to Freeport and the outlet stores and hometown to LL Bean. Great old New England town taken over by the outlets. If you go to Freeport, you need to try the Maine red hot dogs at the stands.

I've heard that there are some great campgrounds along the southeast CT coast area near New London where there is an old whaling village and other attractions.

Good luck and let us know where you decide!

You might try this one as well. http://www.alpinelakervresort.com/
It is a sister resort to the one you stayed in. I prefer this location as it's between both Lake George and Saratoga Springs, either of which are about 15 minuteds away. They also offer trolley service to the nearby tourist attractions. However...my favorite time to visit is in the fall. It's quiet, the foiliage is beautiful and if you like to fish there are two lakes on property(catch and release)..not to mention you're a stone throw away from the Hudson and Sacandaga Rivers.
The resort offers all the amenities..yet you are somewhat removed from the tourist areas.

:lmao:All the campgrounds I've been looking at are VERY expensive. I am surprised. Even the one I linked from Lake George....is like 50 bucks for a dry site. Of course it is a river site...but still. Also I have seen them upwards of 59 bucks a night:crazy2: Makes me want to go to Econo lodge.....ahem...I digress:rolleyes: I've never been to Maine.....I will have to check that out.
Thanks:goodvibes

Normandy farms is very nice probably my next choice after disney so far they have lots for kids and adults to do plus if you want to drive out of the grounds there is other things in the area if i remeber right they do have tent sites they are a little on the expensive side but they do have lots to do and are a very clean place

We did do one of those lake george camps also can't remember which one but it was also nice not as nice as normandy farms but still had lots in area to do we camp more in PA or south so these are my only northern ones i can talk about but Pa has a few nice ones also in the pocono's and near hershey if you want to go that area Nj i would go north west toward the hills or go south around wildwood or atlantic city area there isn't much in central Nj for camping

One of our favorite campgrounds Northeast of us is,
Defeated Creek Campground, it is a Corp park.

Course it is still in Tennessee, but it's Northeast of us.

It's located near Carthage TN. ,, home to the inventer of the internet and inventer of Global Warming.:lmao:

I'm not sure how far North you want to go, but you should check this out: www.papoosepondresort.com

We stayed here this past Fall and what a great place. We were there the last week before they closed and we were the only ones camping there but what a beautiful campground. They have a wonderful Summer Camp feel with numerous activities for the kids. They rent cabins, park models, have all sorts of sites.

It's definitely a Summer Resort campground.

Wow that place looks great also. Looks like a big lake around the campground....Is it good for boating?

I would agree with other posts about Normandy Farms in Foxborough, MA. Great RV Resort, but they fill up quickly and early in the season, so you would have to make your reservations soon. (I think they are already booked for July and August this year for full hookup sites, but I could be mistaken). You can check them out at www.normandyfarms.com
Other nice campgrounds in the northeast can be found in Wells, Maine. Two that we have stayed at are Wells Beach RV Resort, and Sea-Vu Campground. Both are quite nice, and are close to Drakes Island which has a very nice beach.
If you're looking for someplace in New Hampshire, we like Broken Branch KOA in Woodstock (BEAUTIFUL foliage in October), and we will be trying Moose Hillock this year.
As far as the Cape (Cape Cod in Massachusetts) goes, we have only stayed at Bay View Campground in Bourne and it was okay. We will be trying Cape Cod Campresort in East Falmouth this year.
Good luck in your search, and happy camping!!

Normandy Farms looks AWESOME....and it has an indoor pool:cool1: WOW.
I'll have to look up the other ones. I won't need a full hookup.
We will probably be in a tent, although those "YURTS" look really cool.

My wife and I took our 4 wee ones (2, 4, 8, 9) camping for a few nights in Pennsylvania at a place called Knoebels.

http://www.knoebels.com/

I can’t begin to tell you what a great time we had. This is an old time amusement park with classic and new rides with a campground.
I have never tasted any better food at any park better then at this place. My wife and I would giggle every time we paid for anything because of the value. We live near the Boardwalks in NJ and everything there is so expensive, so paying $20 for all of us to eat Breakfast and have food left over is a pleasant surprise. The one thing that was really disappointing about our stay was that I didn’t have a chance to try all their food.

The admission into the park is FREE, FREE parking and FREE entertainment. It seems that a lot of the campers would watch the evening show at the park then head back to the camp fires.
The camping at their campground is tight and no privacy. You are right on top of your neighbors, but the ease of walking right to the park is way worth it with 4 wee ones. They even have spots along side of one of their wooden rollercoaster’s.
We did cruise around the area and found a few coved bridges and and a quieter campground with a lot more room down the road. (J & D Campground) There was even a cute little ice cream shop across the street, but we didn’t stay there. We might this year thou.

This place is defiantly a hidden gem and we will be making it a yearly visit. For such an unknown place, it has won many awards, even beating out the mouse.

As for central New Jersey, Turkey Swamp is the only place I would and have camped at.

Excellent Choice!

The campground that is right next to the park has smaller sites but Lake Glory, their other campground has bigger sites with full hook ups. They provide a shuddle to and from the campround.

The food is excellent too! :thumbsup2

thanks...Pa is real nice. We camped at a nice place Lake Wallenpaupak(Ironwood point) and we brought our boat. I was hoping for a place with a pool for DD to swim though. I do like privacy....need some bush between me and my neighbor:goodvibes
I will be in a Tent, if they rent cabins that is a plus because my parents won't stay in a tent.
Thanks
