Unless you take the elevator/inside stairs up to 13 and exit through the port side door. You go around the smoking area that way.

If so concerned, I could hold my breath for the 3 seconds it takes me to walk past the smoking area if I'm coming from the outside passage.

When I remember.

I just think they could have thought that placement out a bit better.

If being inside is okay with you, then go to the skyline Lounge during the day. No one is in there. Occasionally a passenger will peek in but no one stays. Bartenders will come through and take care of you if they know you are hanging out. It's a great place to nap!

Unless there is a Mixology class.

I think they just wanted to keep it all to port side. That way there's no confusion.
