Try following a discount blog for your area, or a national one like commonsensewithmoney.blogspot.com. They will highlight great values that can be found by combining sales with coupons. For instance, when Polish dish washing detergent puts out a $2 coupon, it can usually be bought for under a dollar at Walgreens or Target.

You can also start a "price book," or keep track in your head of what you want to pay for these products. I try not to pay more than $10 for a 100 oz bottle of liquid Tide, for example.

The best bet is too look for specials and stock up when things are really marked down. Then you aren't spending full price just because you need it now.

If you aren't picky about brands, The Dollar Store carries those things and that is about as cheap as you can get.

We buy ours at BJs when we can combine a manufacturer coupon with a BJs coupon. Not only does this make it cheaper but when I'm not running to the grocery store for tp or trash bags, I'm not picking up a few extra things, so I'm saving money there too.

I noticed Target has their "bulk" first of the year stuff marking down on clearance. It was barely 30% off now but I imagine in a few more days it will go down even more.

My Target had everything still stuffed full. The dishwashing tabs were 60ct for less than 10 bucks which I thought was a good price. The two or three bottle of toilet bowl cleaner and the lysol wipes were also being marked down.

I'm hoping it will go down even further in the next week or two. I'm moving soon and will buy all this to be packed and stocked for the next house!

On a regular basis though, I purchase at sam's club. Personally, I just like to go in and purchase everything I need and know it is in the house. I do this maybe every three months and just add in an extra $50-100 for these purchases.

I'm with the people who stock up. Then I'll wait for stores to have big sales that coincide with my coupons and buy as many as my coupons will allow.

Oddly enough I've found CVS and Staples of all places to have great deals on the paper products. CVS often has them on their "buy $30 get $10 CVS bucks back" item list.

www.slickdeals.net has awesome deals with toilet paper, & paper towels posted all the time, because of them I now have 12 lysol toilet bowl cleaners for less than 15$ got them off amazon

Coupons...coupons...coupons.....I also wait until my local shoprite has a pricebreak sale on them and then with the coupon it is a big savings! I try to pay .50 cents a roll or less.

My advice -- never buy non-grocery items at a grocery store -- save the household paper, trash bags, and other "non-edibles" for a trip to either Walmart or Target. The markups on everyday household items is how grocery chains make their money.

As I see OP is in KY, places like ShopRite and BJ's aren't going to help, because they do not exist in the Bluegrass State.

An option close to OP may be Sam's Club -- families are known to really stretch those dollars at the club stores.

Staples is great for toilet paper and paper towels. I buy the 100% back in rewards promos (like batteries, ear buds, paper, etc.) and buy my tp when I get my rewards. I don't use paper towels though--just regular kitchen towels.

I get dish washer and laundry soap at Wegmans with a coupon they double or Target with a sale and coupon. I actually do not stockpile much, though, because I like to keep things at a minimum in the house and decent deals are usually available. Oh, and I have NO brand loyalty.

Actually, when I compared some things, like small bathroom cups, kiddie plates, etc., Wegmans usually beats Target. I know most food stores aren't Wegmans, but I found that interesting and buy most of my shampoo, dish soap, etc. at Wegmans now.

Dishwasher detergent: I get the Kirkland (Costco) brand. I can get two huge bottles for $10, where a bottle half that size costs that much somewhere else. We bought a two-pack at Costco back before Christmas and I run the dishwasher 5-6 times a week and we still haven't gotten through the first bottle yet.

I make my own laundry detergent. It's so easy and for less than $10.00, I have enough for a year and it does a fantastic job cleaning my clothes. You can find a lot of "recipes" online for MYO, I do the powder kind so I don't have to boil it in my pots for the liquid kind...

I actually do better at my grocery store with coupons when it's on sale. Target is pricey for that stuff around here. Although the bulk items at Target got down one year and I got the huge thing of TP 36 rolls for like $6 (75% off) I thought wow that's a great deal so I went back in and bought one more. Got home and called my mom and sister who both said go get me some...so I went back, but within 30 min later it was all gone!

I usually do Target and Costco. Unless it's a must have at the time, it's Walgreens or CVS.

Menards for paper towels 49 cents a roll and never fall apart. We buy the whole box of 30 rolls.

Toilet paper is trickier. You need to watch for sales on it. I typically do buy that at walmart (Charmin Basic) but will buy at other sales if it is discounted.

Costco for Dish Soap and Laundry soap

For our area, the best prices by far at at Sam's Club. I am into couponing, but for paper and cleaning products, Sam's Club beats the stores here (Target, Wal-Mart, HyVee, Fareway) most of the time. The only exception is the Up & Up brand from Target when combined with a Target coupon. I hate worrying about running out of toilet paper, so I love to buy the jumbo pack at Sam's and no it will last awhile.

I recently bought a case of angle soft rolles from staples if you can afford it you can buy a 25 off 75 coupon for a couple of dollars and then stock up. The roll almost lasted my wife and I a week

For dish washing I think costco and Bjs run a b1G1 on finish tablets I think it comes out to 8 cents per load
