Where is Canada in It's A Small World?

I just got back from WDW and rode It's a Small World 2x's and looked for a doll representing Canada but saw none (I looked for this last year as well). I remember the ride at Disneyland years ago had Mounties I believe, and I am not sure if they were in the ride at WDW prior to the refurb. So are there no dolls representing Canada? I heard there are only 2 representing the US (cowboy and Native American at the end) so I was wondering what happened to Canada?

I think they took the mounties out when they re-modelled it. I vaguely remember mounties being there years ago.

Hi I'm pretty sure Canada is one of the very first displays you see coming in. I could be wrong but the whole thing could be representing Canada!!! I hope they didn't take it away-As much as I don't care to admit it, Small World is one of our family's favorites!!

The way they always make fun of how cold we are, I just assumed the Eskimos were for Canada. There must be someone out there that is an expert on this ride.

I have been watching this ride for some time ;) and I think we have been removed from IASW! I always forget to mention it on the boards, but we have been dissed!

I don't believe that we have EVER been represented in IASW. I've had this discussion many times with the different people I have taken to WDW over the years. I thought after the last refurb in 2005 that we would have been added, but nope. It's OK though ... the fact that I sing at the top of my lungs throughout the entire ride is my revenge. :rotfl:

HI Maryliz

I am sure we were in IASW...I can picture it, Mounties...unless I am confusing it with Disneyland Paris or Disneyland in California!

My girls asked last week. I just told them that the 'cowgirl' and the Inuit dolls were representative of North America. pirate: Some people in the US think that we are a state, don't they? :rotfl:

The Canada dolls are in the Disneyland version. The WDW version has never had dolls from Canada (or at least for as long as I can remember).

Now perhaps it's possible that WDW did have them prior to the early 1990s when the Mounties struck a deal for Disney to handle all of the licensing of the RCMP likenesses and icons. As part of that deal, Disney itself could not use the RCMP outfit which is why Mountie Mickey and Mountie Pooh (yes there was such a thing) were removed from the Canada pavillion. For the same reason perhaps the Canada dolls were removed from IASW in WDW but not DL. But really that's a wild guess. I think more likely its that the Canada dolls have never been there at all.

BTW, it seems that Disney no longer handles RCMP licensing anymore. I'm not sure when that stopped though. I do remember visiting the Disney offices in Etobicoke ON and being shown the RCMP room where a sampling of all of the licensed products were displayed -- that was in 1998.

I was thinking about this again and was wondering if at the end of IASW when you go into that final area when it's a reprise of all the dolls from various countries dressed in their traditional dress but all white, perhaps that is supposed to represent North America (the Canada and US part--not Mexico since they are already represented earlier on in the ride). My reasoning is that Canada and the US are a mix of people from around the world and in this section everyone is unified by their white costume but still are in traditional dress thus emphasizing that they came from somewhere else. I know everyone says the US is only represented by the Native and Cowboy doll but this maybe another way of looking at it? I still would have liked to see something unique to Canada like say dolls in front of landmarks like CN Tower, Rockies Niagara Falls or even maple trees it doesn't have to be stereotypical like the Mounties. :goodvibes

My Mission this Weekend, find out where Canada is represnted in IASW!

I am willing to ride it numerous times until I do!

If I don't return, it's because my DD has thrown me overboard due to the fact that she hates this ride!

Wish me luck!

They wouldn't let me do it!

My travelling party would not allow me to ride IASW!

Will have to wait until my October Trip!
